Comparison of a Novel Tension Band and Patellotibial Tubercle Cerclage in the Treatment of Comminuted Fractures of Inferior Pole of the Patella

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, 2020
Objective To assess the therapeutic effect of a novel tension band using 3.0 mm cannulated screw combined with a titanium cable and specific shims comparatively with patellotibial tubercle cerclage in comminuted fractures of the inferior pole of the ...

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

Boyd Amputation Using the Tension Band Technique

open access: yesStrategies in Trauma and Limb Reconstruction, 2011
Amputation at the level of the hindfoot results in an equinus deformity from an imbalance of muscle-tendons acting across the ankle. Boyd's reconstruction for hindfoot amputations is a well-known technique that retains the calcaneus and fuses it with the distal tibia at the ankle mortise.

Patellar Fracture Fixation by Cerclage and Tension Band Wiring Technique versus Kirschner wires and Tension Band Wiring Technique

open access: yesمجله كليه طب الكندي, 2016
Background: Fractures of patella constitute 1% of all fractures. Various techniques have been described for internal fixation of patella fractures. Superiority of one technique over the other has long been debated.

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

Dual tension band technique for patellar fractures involving articular surface and inferior pole: a retrospective cohort study and finite element analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
BackgroundFractures involving the inferior pole of the patella can lead to postoperative patella baja. For comminuted patellar fractures that affect both the articular surface and the inferior pole, we aim to explore a new fixation method that provides ...

Theoretical Analysis of Fiber Bragg Grating Tunable Filter Utilizing Tensile /Compression Technique

open access: yesDiyala Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2018
In this paper a wideband tunable filter based on fiber Bragg grating (TF-FBG) utilizing tensile/ compression technique is theoretically investigated. According to the results, a wide tuning range is achieved about 48.36 nm in C￾band region from 1513.7 ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
