Linfield Link: A Creative Outlet in a Real-World Setting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The tension is palpable in the control room. In the studio, lights are set, mic checks are complete and cameras are ready. With a final “Are we ready to go?” the music comes up and tape begins to roll on another edition of Linfield ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Preliminary design of a test rig for combining passive nonlinear isolation with active control

open access: yes, 2012
Resilient elements are typically used to isolate delicate equipment from a vibrating host structure. Conventionally, these isolators are designed to operate in their linear region, but more recently nonlinear isolators have been employed to increase the ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Strain controlled biaxial stretch: An experimental characterization of natural rubber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we provide new experimental data showing the response of 40A natural rubber in uniaxial, pure shear and biaxial tension. Real-time biaxial strain control allows for independent and automatic variation of the velocity of extension and ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Behavior of fluids in a weightless environment [PDF]

open access: yes
Fluid behavior in a low-g environment is controlled primarily by surface tension forces. Certain fluid and system characteristics determine the magnitude of these forces for both a free liquid surface and liquid in contact with a solid.
