Terahertz Quantum Cascade Lasers
Asia Optical Fiber Communication and Optoelectronic Exposition and Conference, 2007Six years after their birth, terahertz quantum-cascade lasers can now deliver milliwatts or more of continuous-wave coherent radiation throughout the terahertz range — the spectral regime between millimetre and infrared wavelengths, which has long resisted development.

Terahertz silicon lasers are based on intracenter transitions of group-V donors. The peculiarities due to electron-phonon interaction and the state-of-the-art performance such as frequency tunability by stress or magnetic field are discussed.

Intersubband Raman laser for operation in terahertz
2011 International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves, 2011We theoretically discuss a possible design of a terahertz intersubband Raman laser. Simulation results show that terahertz Raman gain above 30 cm−1 at 4.2 THz can be produced in these devices using mid-infrared pump intensities below 2 MW/cm2.

Conceptual disadvantages of typical resonant phonon terahertz quantum cascade lasers (THz-QCLs) are analyzed. Alternative designs and their combination within a concrete device proposal are discussed to improve the QCL performance. The improvements are (1) indirect pumping of the upper laser level, (2) diagonal optical transitions, (3) complete ...

Frequency Characterization of a Terahertz Quantum-Cascade Laser
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2007In this paper, the frequency characteristics of a tera-hertz quantum-cascade laser (QCL) operating around 2.5-THz in the pulsed regime have been studied by means of a heterodyne detection by using an optically pumped molecular laser as the local oscillator.

Laser Terahertz Emission Nanoscopy
CLEO Pacific Rim Conference, 2018We demonstrate depletion of terahertz emission from semiconductors by applying a DC bias between a substrate and an AFM probe operating in tapping mode. The depletion is strongly dependent on the probe tapping amplitude.

Tunable terahertz lasers are desirable in applications in sensing and spectroscopy because many biochemical species have strong spectral fingerprints at terahertz frequencies. Conventionally, the frequency of a laser is tuned in a similar manner to a stringed musical instrument, in which pitch is varied by changing the length of the string (the ...

Silicon Stokes terahertz laser
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007A Raman‐type silicon laser at terahertz frequencies has been realized. Stokes‐shifted stimulated emission has been observed from silicon crystals doped by antimony donors when optically excited by an infrared free electron laser. The Raman lasing was obtained due to resonant scattering on electronic states of a donor atom.

Graphene Terahertz Plasmon Laser: A Laser in a Circuit
LEOS 2007 - IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society Annual Meeting Conference Proceedings, 2007We show that as a result of strong field confinement plasmons in population inverted graphene can experience extremely large gain through the process of stimulated emission at terahertz frequencies. The large gain values and the small plasmon wavelengths can lead to compact terahertz plasmon lasers that are only a few microns in size.
