Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Short-Term Forecasting of Non-Stationary Time Series

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
Forecasting climate events is crucial for mitigating and managing risks related to climate change; however, the problem of non-stationarity in time series (NTS) arises, making it difficult to capture and model the underlying trends.

Cosmological Term, Mass, and Space-Time Symmetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In the spherically symmetric case the requirements of regularity of density and pressures and finiteness of the ADM mass $m$, together with the weak energy condition, define the family of asymptotically flat globally regular solutions to the Einstein minimally coupled equations which includes the class of metrics asymptotically de Sitter as $r\to 0$. The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

The time validity of Philip's two‐term infiltration equation: An elusive theoretical quantity?

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal
The two‐term infiltration equation I(t)=St+At is commonly used to determine the sorptivity, S (LT−1/2), and product, A=cKs (LT−1), of the dimensionless multiple c and saturated soil hydraulic conductivity Ks (LT−1) from cumulative vertical infiltration ...
