The Shock Hugoniot of Hydroxy-Terminated Polybutadiene [PDF]
The response of polymers to shock loading is becoming of increasing importance, both as binder systems in plastic‐bonded explosives (PBXs) and as structural materials in their own right. In this paper, we report on the shock Hugoniot of hydroxy‐terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), which is commonly used as a binder system in PBXs, but whose shock response ...

Non-monotonous dose response function of the termination of spiral wave chaos
The conventional termination technique of life threatening cardiac arrhythmia like ventricular fibrillation is the application of a high-energy electrical defibrillation shock, coming along with severe side-effects.

COMPARING SHOCKS IN PLANETARY NEBULAE WITH THE SOLAR WIND TERMINATION SHOCK [PDF]
We show that suprathermal particles, termed pick-up ions (PUIs), might reduce the postshock temperature of the fast wind and jets in some planetary nebulae (PNs) and in symbiotic systems. The goal is to explain the finding that the temperature of the hot bubble formed by the post-shock gas in some PNs and symbiotic nebulae is lower, sometimes by more ...

Heat shock-induced accumulation of translation elongation and termination factors precedes assembly of stress granules in S. cerevisiae. [PDF]
In response to severe environmental stresses eukaryotic cells shut down translation and accumulate components of the translational machinery in stress granules (SGs).

ION SUPERDIFFUSION AT THE SOLAR WIND TERMINATION SHOCK [PDF]
We investigate the propagation of 0.54-3.5 MeV ions accelerated at the termination shock of the solar wind. Data are from Voyager 2 and refer to a time interval about one year long, just before the Voyager 2 termination shock crossing at the end of 2007 August, at roughly 83.7 AU.

The function of the protein phosphatase Glc7p in transcription termination, RNA processing and transcriptional regulation of ribosomal protein genes [PDF]
Gene transcription in general can be subdivided into three main phases: transcription initiation, elongation and termination. The enzyme that accomplishes transcription of protein coding genes, snRNAs and snoRNAs is RNA polymerase II (RNAP II).

Dissolution of spiral wave's core using cardiac optogenetics.
Rotating spiral waves in the heart are associated with life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias such as ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation. These arrhythmias are treated by a process called defibrillation, which forces electrical resynchronization of ...

The Heliospheric Termination Shock [PDF]
The heliospheric Termination Shock is the largest (by dimension) shock in the heliosphere. It is believed that it is also the strongest shock and is responsible for the generation of the Anomalous Cosmic Ray component in the heliosphere. This chapter reviews the gross properties and observations of the Termination Shock. It is structured as follows: 1.

Near-critical supernova outflows and their neutrino signatures
We demonstrate that the neutrino-driven outflows inside exploding core-collapse supernovae possess a special property of near-criticality, that is, they are on the edge of forming termination shocks.
