Virulence factors of Salmonella spp. isolated from free‐living grass snakes Natrix natrix

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2024.
Our study reveals that free‐living snakes can carry strains of Salmonella species that are resistant to human serum. A comprehensive analysis of the virulence factors of the collected strains, using different methods, identified three distinct virulotypes. These are likely the result of adaptation to a new host or environment.

Quantum geometry from phase space reduction

open access: yes, 2009
In this work we give an explicit isomorphism between the usual spin network basis and the direct quantization of the reduced phase space of tetrahedra. The main outcome is a formula that describes the space of SU(2) invariant states by an integral over ...

Comparative resistomics analysis of multidrug‐resistant Chryseobacteria

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 3, June 2024.
Chryseobacteria are resistant to β‐lactam, aminoglycoside, and many other antimicrobials. Comparative resistomics analysis based on 215 Chryseobacteria genomes revealed that >78% of antibiotic resistance genes are putatively intrinsic. However, the discovery of the resistance cluster tetX‐catB11‐IS91‐XerD and its enrichment in clinic isolates suggest ...

Emergence of tigecycline- and eravacycline-resistant Tet(X4)-producing Enterobacteriaceae in the gut microbiota of healthy Singaporeans

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2020
Abstract Objectives The recently discovered tigecycline-inactivating enzyme Tet(X4) can confer high-level tigecycline resistance on its hosts, which makes it a public health concern. This study focused on isolation and screening of Tet(X4)-positive Enterobacteriaceae from the gut microbiota of a ...

Daily occupational exposure in swine farm alters human skin microbiota and antibiotic resistome

open access: yesiMeta, Volume 3, Issue 1, February 2024.
We show that occupational exposure in a livestock environment dynamically reshaped the skin microbiome and resistome. This remodeling effect can take place within hours and the acquired pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have the potential to expand to the general population using farm workers as an ARG vector.

Emergence of mobile tigecycline resistance mechanism in Escherichia coli strains from migratory birds in China

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2019
Plasmid-mediated antimicrobial resistance has emerged as one of the principal global issues, posing significant threats to public health. Herein, we reported a mobile tigecycline resistance mechanism Tet(X4) on both plasmid and chromosome in Escherichia ...

Dynamic proximity interaction profiling suggests that YPEL2 is involved in cellular stress surveillance

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 33, Issue 2, February 2024.
Abstract YPEL2 is a member of the evolutionarily conserved YPEL family involved in cellular proliferation, mobility, differentiation, senescence, and death. However, the mechanism by which YPEL2, or YPEL proteins, mediates its effects is largely unknown.

Computing Generalized Method of Moments and Generalized Empirical Likelihood with R [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper shows how to estimate models by the generalized method of moments and the generalized empirical likelihood using the R package gmm. A brief discussion is offered on the theoretical aspects of both methods and the functionality of the package ...
