Tetrahymena pyriformis (Ehrenberg, 1830) Record as endobiont in Ostracods: This species was recorded in Tonnacypris lutaria (Koch, 1838) found between carapace lamellae and inside limb from Melenci—Bašaid, Danube basin in Serbia (Nikolić & Karan-Žnidaršič 2005).

Mitochondrial DNA in Tetrahymena pyriformis
Experimental Cell Research, 1969Abstract Contrary to the reports in the literature, no satellite DNA bands were found in DNA isolated from Tetrahymena pyriformis strains 6III, HSM, ST, or GL; all of the DNA from a given strain had a single buoyant density in CsCl. A technique for resolving 2 DNAs of only slightly different buoyant density using 2 different radioactive labels is ...

Isocitrate dehydrogenase of Tetrahymena pyriformis
Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1977We have studied the isocitrate dehydrogenase of Tetrahymena pyriformis. This enzyme is able to utilize both NAD and NADP, but kinetic studies suggest that the enzymatic activity with NAD is not of physiological signifance. Some of the factors that might regualte the NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase were also studied.

Phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis in Tetrahymena pyriformis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1970Abstract 1. 1. Phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis in Tetrahymena pyriformis was investigated. Experiments in vivo using [Me-14C]methionine showed incorporation of radioactivity into the choline portion of phosphatidylcholine. No methylation of 2-aminoethylphosphonic acid was detected.

Cadmium-thionein in Tetrahymena thermophila and Tetrahymena pyriformis
European Journal of Protistology, 1990The treatment of Tetrahymena thermophila with cadmium causes a reduction in growth rate according to dose; almost all the metal is accumulated in the cytosol where the Zn content is also increased threefold. Bio-Gel and Water 160 (HPLC) column chromatography show that Cd and Zn are bound to a protein with an ultraviolet (UV) spectrum that appears to be

Chromatin Replication in Tetrahymena pyriformis
1981Publisher Summary The chapter discusses the investigation of chromatin replication in Tetrahymena provided some unexpected evidence in favor of an altered conformation of chromatin in the immediate area of the replication fork, which would be consistent with the involvement of fixed structural entities at the fork region.

Cadmium metallothionein gene of Tetrahymena pyriformis
Gene, 1999A genomic sequence from Tetrahymena pyriformis, encoding a cadmium-induced metallothionein has been cloned. The gene encodes a transcript of 487 bases, with an intronless coding region of 324 nt, using TGA as the stop codon, TAA coding for glutamine, and the translational initiation sequence AAAATGG.

Oleic acid desaturation in Tetrahymena pyriformis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1983The desaturation of oleoyl-CoA by a microsomal preparation from Tetrahymena has been studied. Desaturation of oleoyl-CoA required oxygen and NADH, and was inhibited by cyanide. HPLC analysis of fatty acid phenacyl esters, prepared from TLC-purified phospholipid, confirmed that radioactivity appeared in oleate, linoleate and gamma-linolenate.

Serine biosynthesis in Tetrahymena pyriformis S
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1971Abstract 1. 1. Glycine transhydroxymethylase and threonine aldolase function in the formation of serine in Tetrahymena pyriformis S. 2. 2. Both the phosphorylated and non-phosphorylated pathways of serine biosynthesis from 3-phosphoglycerate are also operative. 3. 3. Tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates also serve as serine precursors

Formation of ribosomes in Tetrahymena pyriformis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1968Abstract The formation of ribosomal sub-units—derived from ribosomes by dialysis against low Mg 2+ concentration—has been studied by incorporation of RNA precursors into exponentially growing Tetrahymena cells. The 50-S derived sub-units show a delayed kinetics of labeling as compared to the 30-S derived subunits.
