Cyanobacteria as multifunctional bioinputs for sustainable intensification, soil health enhancement, and climate resilience in rice‐based cropping systems

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract Ensuring food security goals through the provision of sustainable energy and food without compromising environmental sustainability is the current requirement amid threats from climate change, uncontrolled global population, and scarcity of natural resources.

Green‐lighting biofuels from microalgal lipids: A review of strategies to integrate stress into continuous cultures

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, Volume 20, Issue 2, Page 1196-1210, March/April 2026.
Abstract The vision of using microalgae to obtain organic chemicals in a carbon‐neutral manner is intriguing. It promises to produce various substances including biofuels by photosynthesis, without competing with agricultural land. Processes have been established whereby microalgae undergo a growth phase followed by a stress phase, which induces lipid ...

Adaptive Algal Cultivation Enabled by a Monthly Biomass Forecasting System

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 3, Page 724-741, March 2026.
The developed monthly algal forecasting system used to predict biomass production for two algal strains (A and B) at two pond water depths (low and high). The highest predicted production, achieved with strain A at a low pond water depth, is selected as the cultivation strategy to guide the next month's algal growth.

Adaptive responses to environmental variability in rotifers: Integrating plasticity and bet hedging in dormancy exit

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Environmental variability imposes strong selective pressures that may favor adaptive responses such as phenotypic plasticity and bet hedging. Plasticity is generally favored under predictable conditions, whereas bet hedging is advantageous against environmental uncertainty. Plastic responses rely on reliable cues to adjust phenotypes to future

Tsv-N1: A Novel DNA Algal Virus that Infects Tetraselmis striata [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2015
Numbering in excess of 10 million per milliliter of water, it is now undisputed that aquatic viruses are one of the major factors shaping the ecology and evolution of Earth’s microbial world. Nonetheless, environmental viral diversity and roles remain poorly understood. Here we report the first thorough characterization of a virus (designated TsV) that

Designing the Future of Food: Challenges to Innovation in Microalgae‐Derived Blue Protein Systems

open access: yesSustainable Food Proteins, Volume 4, Issue 1, March 2026.
This image illustrates the key factors in protein extraction from microalgae, along with the main sustainability opportunities and associated risks. ABSTRACT Microalgae are emerging as promising sources of “blue proteins,” a term used to categorize aquatic proteins derived from marine and freshwater organisms.

Toxicity and metabolism of p-chlorophenol in the marine microalga Tetraselmis marina

open access: yesAquatic Toxicology, 2007
Toxicity and metabolism of para-chlorophenol (p-CP) in the marine microalga Tetraselmis marina have been studied. The inhibition constant EC(50) for p-CP was 272+/-17 microM (34.8+/-2.2 mg L(-1)) under the experimental conditions. Two metabolites were detected in the growth medium in the presence of p-CP by reverse phase HPLC and their concentrations ...
