Acceleration of tetrazolium reduction by bacteria
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1976Conditions were assessed which would permit more rapid recognition of bacterial growth than has been previously reported using tetrazolium salts. Microtitration trays were used. 2-(p-Iodophenyl)-3(p-nitrophenyl)-5-phenyltetrazolium chloride is rapidly reduced by respiring cells in tissue homogenates but is more toxic than other tetrazoliums when added ...

Genetic Polymorphism of Tetrazolium Oxidase in Dogs
Science, 1969Two alleles, To A and To B , determine a genetic polymorphism of tetrazolium oxidase in canine erythrocytes. The approximate gene frequencies for most dog breeds are 0.94 for To A and 0.06 for To B .

One of the most sensitive and widespread colorimetric detection systems in matrix-based application formats is the redox couple 5-bromo-4-chloro-indolyl phosphate (BCIP)/nitroblue tetrazolium chloride (NBT). It is used for the detection and localisation of alkaline phosphatase activity especially in Western and Southern blots or in immunohisto ...

Influence of Anticoagulants on the Nitroblue Tetrazolium Test
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1973AbstractThe influence of anticoagulants on the nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) test in neutrophils from 12 patients with bacterial infections and 40 healthy individuals has been examined. Calcium-binding anticoagulants caused a marked inhibition of formazan formation, making the test useless.

SOME two hundred papers dealing with the chemistry of triphenyltetrazolium chloride and its use as a redox-indicator have been reviewed by Ried1 and Smith2. In spite of its wide use in biology, up to the present little is known about its reducing mechanism, the influence of experimental conditions on it, on its redox-potential, etc., and therefore the ...

Tetrazolium salts and formazans
2020Tetrazolium salts discussed here are of the 2-H type, and contain one or more five-membered heterocyclic rings, each of which carries a delocalized positive charge. Such a tetrazolium compound may be represented by a pair of Kekule forms. Tetrazolium salts can be reduced to formazans by a variety of mild reductants, including those of enzyme-catalyzed ...
