New insights into epileptic spasm generation and treatment from the TTX animal model
Abstract Currently, we have an incomplete understanding of the mechanisms underlying infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS). However, over the past decade, significant efforts have been made to develop IESS animal models to provide much‐needed mechanistic information for therapy development.

Marine toxins - saxitoxin (STX) and tetrodotoxin (TTX)
Saxitoxin (STX) and tetrodotoxin (TTX) are two of the most poisonous marine biotoxins known. They have a very interesting history, both used as a means for suicide and murder STX has been announced publicly by the world`s governments as a chemical weapon,

The multiple hit model of infantile and epileptic spasms: The 2025 update
Abstract Objective Infantile and epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) is a developmental and epileptic encephalopathy manifesting with epileptic spasms and poor neurodevelopmental outcomes. There is an urgent need for the development of more effective and tolerated therapies.

Ketogenic diet for infantile epileptic spasms
Abstract Approximately half of all cases of Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) do not respond to vigabatrin and hormonal therapies. There is no clear consensus as to the second‐line therapy for IESS. Ketogenic diet (KD) has emerged as an effective treatment for certain drug‐resistant epilepsies and in many cases of IESS.

Tetrodotoxin functions as a stress relieving substance in juvenile tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes
We tested whether tetrodotoxin (TTX) functions as a stress relieving substance in puffer fish. We orally administered TTX to the juveniles of hatchery-reared non-toxic tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes and measured the effects of TTX on brain corticotropin ...

ABSTRACT Background Dopamine (DA) exerts complex concentration‐dependent effects on gastrointestinal motility. Although its inhibitory action through D2‐like receptors is well‐established, the mechanisms underlying its excitatory effects remain elusive.

Pufferfish exposure and presumed tetrodotoxicosis in Australian dogs: 372 cases (2007–2018)
Introduction Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a neurotoxin found in pufferfish that results in the blockade of excitatory conduction and clinical signs including gastrointestinal upset and paralysis. The objectives of this study were to describe the epidemiology of pufferfish exposure and presumed tetrodotoxicosis in dogs, and to determine associations with the ...

Cancer pain: current practice and emerging targets
Cancer pain (CP) arises from a complex interplay between the tumour and its microenvironment. Many patients experience a mixed pain phenotype that encompasses nociceptive, neuropathic and neuroinflammatory mechanisms, and vary across tumour type and disease stage. Despite decades of intensive research, the mainstay of cancer pain treatment is still non‐
