Textile antennas for on-body sensors
2015 IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium (SAS), 2015Guidelines for modification of conventional antenna design to yield efficient operation in body-centric environment are presented. The interaction of the antenna and human body is investigated by modeling the wave propagation around torso. Two types of wearable antennas based on modifying quarter-wavelength shorted patch are designed and manufactured ...

2018 Symposium on Design, Test, Integration & Packaging of MEMS and MOEMS (DTIP), 2018
Monitoring of humidity is a widespread application for process control, lifetime assessment of components and assemblies, environmental control systems, medical textiles, working clothes and personal safety systems. To allow spatially resolved mapping of this parameter over a larger textile surface, discrete sensor elements are presently placed ...

Washability of e-textile stretch sensors and sensor insulation
Proceedings of the 2014 ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computers, 2014An effective way to monitor body movements and positions (including physiological signals like breathing) without causing discomfort is through integration of sensors and electronics into base layers of clothing. However, for many applications (including sports and fitness), such sensors must be washable.

Large area sensor integration in textiles
International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices, 2012In recent years, the integration of electronics in technical textiles has gained increasing attention especially in Europe. Many industry driven projects have already been started in this area on national as well as on European level. An example is the European project PASTA.

A breathing game with capacitive textile sensors
2011 IEEE International Games Innovation Conference (IGIC), 2011Computer games are developed to encourage practice of thoracic or abdominal breathing for physiological and pathological treatment. It is demonstrated by using an exercise shirt embedded with two sets of dual sensors controlled by LM555 and PIC24FJ256 microprocessors, with animated display onto a computer screen. Results and future work are discussed.

Dancing game by digital textile sensor
2010 2nd International IEEE Consumer Electronics Society's Games Innovations Conference, 2010The largest area of technology-driven game research is the development of novel input techniques. Researchers are exploring input techniques to track the user's motion via computer vision or new physical devices. We use two socks and a pair of pants with dome-shaped sensors inside to detect the change in posture of the feet and hips.

In this chapter, you will learn how to use the Wearic textile pressure sensor with your wearables to make them pressure sensitive. Textile pressure sensors can be used to detect touch and determine different levels of pressure while squeezing. A microcontroller can be used to read the sensor values and process them to identify the level of pressure or ...

Textile Piezoresistive Sensors for Biomechanical Variables Monitoring
2006 International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2006In this paper is described the study leading to the implementation of two novel classes of textile piezoresistive sensors, for application in the field of post stroke rehabilitation and cardiovascular diseases monitoring. Two different approaches have been used, the first one leading to the realization of knitted transducer fabric to be integrated in ...
