Thalamocortical synapses inform the cerebral neocortex about the external and internal worlds. The thalamus produces myriad thalamocortical pathways that vary in morphological, physiological, pharmacological and functional properties. All these features are of great importance for understanding how information is acquired, integrated, processed, stored

A visual thalamocortical slice
Nature Methods, 2006We describe a thalamocortical slice preparation in which connectivity between the mouse lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) and primary visual cortex (V1) is preserved. Through DiI injections in fixed brains we traced and created a three-dimensional model of the mouse visual pathways.

Thalamocortical relations in gustation
Brain Research, 1972Abstract The paucity of data on the response of cortical neurons to taste stimulation raised the question of whether thalamic taste neurons do, in fact, project to cortex. In an electrophysiological study of thalamocortical taste projections in the albino rat and cottontop marmoset, the following results were obtained.
