Charting our Uncharted Milky Way

open access: yes, 2020
Our position in the Milky Way, buried within its disk, makes it extraordinarily difficult to piece together the structure of our home Galaxy. We know the Milky Way is a barred spiral but many questions, including the precise number, location, and ...

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Introducing the DREAMS Project: DaRk mattEr and Astrophysics with Machine Learning and Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We introduce the DaRk mattEr and Astrophysics with Machine learning and Simulations (DREAMS) project, an innovative approach to understanding the astrophysical implications of alternative dark matter (DM) models and their effects on galaxy formation and ...

TSPYL5 Promotes Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Metastasis by Antagonizing USP10‐Mediated PTEN Stabilization to Unleash a ZEB1‐Dependent EMT Program

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The hyperactivation of PI3K/AKT signaling in PTEN wild‐type triple‐negative breast cancer represents a clinical paradox. We delineate a novel post‐translational regulatory axis wherein the oncogene TSPYL5 competitively antagonizes the deubiquitinase USP10.

Close Encounters of Wide Binaries Induced by the Galactic Tide: Implications for Stellar Mergers and Gravitational-wave Sources

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
A substantial fraction of stars can be found in wide binaries with projected separations between ∼10 ^2 and 10 ^5 au. In the standard lore of binary physics, these would evolve as effectively single stars that remotely orbit one another on stationary ...

The DREAMS Project: A New Suite of 1,024 Simulations to Contextualize the Milky Way and Assess Physics Uncertainties

open access: yes
We introduce a new suite of 1,024 cosmological and hydrodynamical zoom-in simulations of Milky Way-mass halos, run with Cold Dark Matter, as part of the DREAMS Project. Each simulation in the suite has a unique set of initial conditions and combination of cosmological and astrophysical parameters.

Investigating Milky Way Structure with Gaia

open access: yes, 2019
We present an investigation of the structure and characteristics of the Milky Way Galaxy using data from the Gaia mission\u27s second data release (DR2).

Discovery of a 205.89 Hz accreting millisecond x-ray pulsar in the globular cluster NGC 6440

open access: yes, 2010
We report on the discovery of the second accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar (AMXP) in the globular cluster NGC 6440. Pulsations with a frequency of 205.89 Hz were detected with RXTE on 2009 August 30, October 1 and October 28, during the decays of 4 day ...

Testing modified Newtonian dynamics in the Milky Way [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) is an empirical theory originally proposed to explain the rotation curves of spiral galaxies by modifying the gravitational acceleration, rather than by invoking dark matter. Here, we set constraints on MOND using an up-
