FEATURE SALTATION AND THE EVOLUTION OF MIMICRY
In Batesian mimicry, a harmless prey species imitates the warning coloration of an unpalatable model species. A traditional suggestion is that mimicry evolves in a two-step process, in which a large mutation first achieves approximate similarity to the ...

Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

The evolution of sex [Principles of evolution, ecology and behavior]
Educação Superior::Ciências Biológicas::GenéticaPresents a class of Professor Stephen Stearns that talks about the evolution of sex. He explains it's evolution and continued prevalence. He argues that sex does have several costs compared to asex, but the

RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Atmospheric deposition enhances marine methane production and emissions from global oceans
Aerobic methane production from biological methylphosphonate degradation contributes to the observed supersaturation of oceanic methane in oxygenated surface waters.

Knowledge of evolution and evolution of knowledge
It is argued that evolution goes beyond that which can be described in a well-defined language) and that it instead enforces a language that is itself evolving. Evolution is the unfolding of this self-reference.

Genes, culture and agriculture : an example of human niche construction
K. N. Laland was supported by an ERC Advanced Grant (EVOCULTURE).Theory and empirical data from a variety of disciplines strongly imply that recent human history involves extensive gene-culture coevolution, much of it as a direct result of human ...
