Pedestrian Counting with Occlusion Handling Using Stereo Thermal Cameras

open access: yesSensors, 2016
The number of pedestrians walking the streets or gathered in public spaces is a valuable piece of information for shop owners, city governments, event organizers and many others.

Decoherence and Thermalization [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2007
We present a rigorous analysis of the phenomenon of decoherence for general N-level systems coupled to reservoirs of free massless bosonic fields. We apply our general results to the specific case of the qubit. Our approach does not involve master equation approximations and applies to a wide variety of systems which are not explicitly solvable.

Flexural Behavior of Bidirectionally Graded Lattice

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
An experimental study of the bending behavior of bidirectional body‐centered cubic lattice beams is conducted in comparison to uniform and unidirectional counterparts of electron beam melted SS 316 L. Experimental results are used to develop and validate a finite element model which is subsequently used to conduct parametric studies to assess the ...

2D Temperature Analysis of Energy and Exergy Characteristics of Laminar Steady Flow across a Square Cylinder under Strong Blockage

open access: yesEntropy, 2015
Energy and exergy characteristics of a square cylinder (SC) in confined flow are investigated computationally by numerically handling the steady-state continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations in the Reynolds number range of Re = 10–50, where the ...

Spectroscopic, thermal and antibacterial studies on Mn(II) and Co(II) complexes derived from thiosemicarbazone [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2009
Mn(II) and Co(II) complexes having the general composition [M(L)2X2] (where L = 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazone, M = Mn(II) and Co(II), X = Cl- and - NO3 ) were synthesized.

Radiative bistability and thermal memory [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 113, 074301 (2014), 2014
We predict the existence of a thermal bistability in many-body systems out of thermal equilibrium which exchange heat by thermal radiation using insulator-metal transition (IMT) materials. We propose a writing-reading procedure and demonstrate the possibility to exploit the thermal bistability to make a volatile thermal memory.

Topology Optimization of Lattice Support Structure for Cantilever Beams Fabricated Via Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A numerical scheme is presented to design a lattice support for metallic components additively built via laser powder bed fusion. Results show that thermal‐induced distortion can be respectively reduced by 69%, 58%, and 50% in comparison to a uniform lattice, a fully solid support, and a truss‐based lattice support.

Thermal illusions for thermal displays: a review

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2023
Thermal illusions, a subset of haptic illusions, have historically faced technical challenges and limited exploration. They have been underutilized in prior studies related to thermal displays. This review paper primarily aims to comprehensively categorize thermal illusions, offering insights for diverse applications in thermal display design.

Mechanical and thermal properties of bacterial-cellulose-fibre-reinforced Mater-Bi® bionanocomposite

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2013
The effects of the addition of fibres of bacterial cellulose (FBC) to commercial starch of Mater-Bi® have been investigated. FBC produced by cultivating Acetobacter xylinum for 21 days in glucose-based medium were purified by sodium hydroxide 2.5 wt ...
