Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Characteristics of kenaf fibre/epoxy composites subjected to thermal degradation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Kenaf fibres are receiving much attention in the natural fibre composite industry due to its potential as polymer reinforcements. However, like all natural fibres, kenaf fibres have lower thermal resistance as compared to synthetic fibres.

On the Thermal Degradation of Lubricant Grease: Degradation Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Tribology
Abstract An exact thermal degradation model for lubricant grease emerges as the sum of the contributions from the active thermal mechanisms of heat transfer, heat storage, and evaporation. The second law’s non-negative entropy generation is used as the basis for degradation characterization.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Thermal degradation of poly(ethyleneglycol) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The thermal degradation of poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG) with an average molecular weight of 4000 has been investigated from the point of view of developing PEG as a phase change material in thermal energy storage. The PEG was maintained at 80 °C for 1000 h

Kinetic modelling of phenols consumption during polyethylene thermal oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Irganox 1010 stabilized PE was monitored by carbonyl build-up and DSC under oxygen. A scheme for PE stabilization by phenols was implemented and its kinetic parameters were calculated from experimental results.

Investigating the role of different stabilizers of PVCs by using a torque rheometer

open access: yesOpen Engineering, 2023
Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) is one of the versatile thermoplastic materials that have tremendous applications almost everywhere but it is thermally unstable at high temperatures.
