Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Efficient quantum thermal simulation [PDF]

open access: yesNature
Abstract Quantum computers promise to tackle quantum simulation problems that are classically intractable 1 . Although a lot of quantum algorithms 2–4 have been developed for simulating quantum dynamics, a general-purpose method for ...

Thermal efficiency of solar steam generation approaching 100% through capillary water transport.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2019
Solar-driven interfacial water evaporation yield is always severely limited by the low efficiency of solar thermal energy. Herein, by analogy to the soil water, the injection control technique (ICT) completely reproduces the energy state of water in the ...

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Toward phonon-boundary engineering in nanoporous materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Tuning thermal transport in nanostructured materials is a powerful approach to develop high-efficiency thermoelectric materials. Using a recently developed approach based on the phonon mean free path dependent Boltzmann transport equation, we compute the

Energy efficient thermal systems and processes

open access: yesThermal Science and Engineering Progress, 2018
Abstract Achieving thermal systems and processes which are energy efficient and of optimised design is a goal for researchers and engineers in view of rising energy costs and decreasing targets for greenhouse gas emissions. Energy efficiency is also vital if organisations are to remain competitive.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Bi-LSTM, GRU and 1D-CNN models for short-term photovoltaic panel efficiency forecasting case amorphous silicon grid-connected PV system

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Photovoltaic (PV) panels stand as a prominent solution to meet the world's growing energy demands, due to their resistance to hard climate conditions, low-cost maintenance, and long lifetime. Nonetheless, the integration of PV power into electrical grids

Efficiency of a thermodynamic motor at maximum power

open access: yes, 2011
Several recent theories address the efficiency of a macroscopic thermodynamic motor at maximum power and question the so-called "Curzon-Ahlborn (CA) efficiency." Considering the entropy exchanges and productions in an n-sources motor, we study the ...
