A thermal elastohydrodynamic analysis of flats
Wear, 1977Abstract A thermal Reynolds equation is developed for a lubricant with an exponential viscosity—temperature variation and for surface contacts with different temperatures. The equation is used to analyse the formation of a lubricant film on a flat rigid punch approaching an elastic plane.

Thermal elastohydrodynamics in isotropic and anisotropic surfaces
Physics of FluidsThis study investigates thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) of non-Gaussian rough surfaces with varying microstructural morphologies. Through flow factors, the influence mechanisms of surface roughness, texture patterns, temperature, and pressure on interfacial lubrication performance are thoroughly analyzed.

On the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication of tilting roller pairs
Tribology International, 2013Abstract In order to investigate thermal effect of tilting roller pairs, a numerical solution for TEHL of tilting roller pairs has been presented. Variations in the lubricating performance with tilting angle have been investigated. Comparison between thermal and isothermal solutions has been made.

Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rider Rings
Journal of Tribology, 1984The full thermal elastohydrodynamic analysis of the lubrication of rider rings is presented. A numerical solution of the coupled Reynolds, elasticity, energy, and Laplace’s equations for the oil film thickness, pressure, and temperature and rider rings temperatures is obtained. The temperature variation across the oil film is included.

A Thermal Model for Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rough Surfaces
Tribology Transactions, 1992This paper reports on the development of a thermal model that can be 4us1ed to analyze transient elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of rough surfaces. The thermal domain is composed of three sub-domains, including the film region and the two bounding solids with the thermal boundaries placed inside the solids at which the temperature variation is ...

Thermal analysis of an Eyring fluid in elastohydrodynamic traction
Wear, 1980Abstract Recent research into elastohydrodynamic (EHD) traction has shown that under high pressure and isothermal conditions the flow properties of typical lubricants follow the Eyring relation between shear stress τ and shear rate /.γ: η/.γ = τ 0 sinh( τ τ 0 ) where η is the Newtonian viscosity and τ0 a representative stress. The

Thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication of starved elliptical contacts
Tribology International, 2009For the starved thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication in elliptical contacts, a numerical solver based on the multi-grid technique was developed and numerical solutions were achieved. The influences of the thickness of oil-supply layer, elliptical ratio, entrainment velocity, slide-roll ratio, and the maximum Hertzian pressure on the lubrication ...

A Simplified Thermal Analysis of Elastohydrodynamic Contacts
Journal of Tribology, 2013Under elastohydrodynamic (EHL) conditions, the temperature in the contact zone determines the load resistance of the lubricant film. Therefore, an efficient assessment of the scuffing risks requires accurate contact temperature predictions. The work presented in this paper develops a simple and prompt temperature model exploitable within any thermal ...

Traction of Elastohydrodynamic Contacts With Thermal Shearing Flow
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1975The formulation and solution for the shear stress and temperature in heavily loaded sliding elastohydrodynamic contacts is presented. The solutions are presented in dimensionless design charts. Integration over the contact area will yield the traction. Accuracy is expected to be very good over the nearly flat part of the contact area where the majority
