Exploring the optimal thermal mass to investigate the potential of a novel low-energy house concept [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In conventional buildings thermal mass is a permanent building characteristic depending on the building design. However, none of the permanent thermal mass concepts are optimal in all operational conditions.

Modeling method for low-capacity hot water boiler plants and their thermal loads

open access: yesВестник Самарского государственного технического университета. Серия: Технические науки
The paper presents a novel method for modeling autonomous low-capacity hot water boiler plants and their thermal loads. The proposed approach is based on representing the main elements of the thermal circuit (boiler, heat exchanger, heating, and domestic

A Review of Thermally Activated Building Systems (TABS) as an Alternative for Improving the Indoor Environment of Buildings

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Among the alternatives for improving the thermal comfort conditions inside buildings are the thermally activated building systems (TABS). They are embedded in different building components to improve the indoor air temperature. In this work, a review and

Heat and Mass Transfer in Thermal Plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesPure and Applied Chemistry, 1976
Abstract The present status of plasma processes involving heat and mass transfer is surveyed, with particular reference to the processes of vaporization, condensation and chemical reaction. Some of the more important plasma techniques are discussed with emphasis placed on means for maximising the overall thermal efficiency of the mass transfer ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Cyclic Operation of Molten-Salt Thermal Energy Storage in Thermoclines for Solar Power Plants

open access: yes, 2013
The cyclic operation of molten-salt thermal energy storage thermoclines for solar thermal power plants is systematically investigated. A comprehensive, two-temperature model is first developed for the cyclic operation of a thermocline operating with a ...

Thermal Actuation Based 3-DoF Non-Resonant Microgyroscope Using MetalMUMPs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
High force, large displacement and low voltage consumption are a primary concern for microgyroscopes. The chevron-shaped thermal actuators are unique in terms of high force generation combined with the large displacements at a low operating voltage in ...

The Impacts of a Building’s Thermal Mass on the Cooling Load of a Radiant System under Various Typical Climates

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Cooling load is difficult to predict for a radiant system, because the interaction between a building’s thermal mass and radiation heat gain has not been well defined in a zone with a cooling surface. This study aims to reveal the effect of thermal

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

The thermal behaviour of three different auger pressure grouted piles used as heat exchangers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Three auger pressure grouted (APG) test piles were constructed at a site in Richmond, Texas. The piles were each equipped with two U-loops of heat transfer pipes so that they could function as pile heat exchangers.
