Sympathetic nerve innervation is required for beigeing in white fat

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2019
It is increasingly recognized that activation of beige adipocyte thermogenesis by pharmacological or genetic approaches increases energy expenditure and alleviates obesity.

The role of insulin in nonshivering thermogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The regulation of nonshivering thermogenesis by insulin was studied in cold-acclimated rats (2 weeks at 5 °C) made diabetic after injection with streptozotocin (75 mg/kg, i.p.) and maintained in the warm (25 °C) for 2–7 days.

Genomic Investigations Unveil the Genetic Underpinnings of Environmental Adaptation in African Goat Populations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study integrates genomics and landscape genetics to analyze African goat environmental adaptation. Analyzing 1591 samples, it finds population structure differentiates geographically into four groups, with gene flow between wild Yura goats and North Africans.

Infrared thermography unveiled the variation of brown adipose tissue thermogenesis among East Asian adults

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
The thermogenesis of brown adipose tissue (BAT) is interesting because the contribution to human adaptation to cold and obesity resistance has been suggested.

The role of cone volatiles and thermogenesis in the pollination of Encephalartos cycads with particular reference to E.villosus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references.Pollination systems of cycads usually involve obligate mutualisms in which the cycad taxa depend on between one and three insect pollinators.

Gut Microbiota of Gray Snub‐Nosed Monkeys: Adaptation to Seasonal Variations Through Energy Compensation and Thermogenesis

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Based on metagenome‐assembled genomes (MAGs), the gut microbiota of the gray snub‐nosed monkeys recovered 1229 non‐redundant MAGs. The gut microbiota showed an enhanced capacity to produce energy substrates with increased conversion activity of these substrates during winter.

Absence of MCJ/DnaJC15 promotes brown adipose tissue thermogenesis

open access: yesNature Communications
Obesity poses a global health challenge, demanding a deeper understanding of adipose tissue (AT) and its mitochondria. This study describes the role of the mitochondrial protein Methylation-controlled J protein (MCJ/DnaJC15) in orchestrating brown ...

Identification of MEF2A, MEF2C, and MEF2D interactomes in basal and Fsk‐stimulated mouse MA‐10 Leydig cells

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Myocyte enhancer factor 2 transcription factors regulate essential transcriptional programs in various cell types. The activity of myocyte enhancer factor 2 factors is modulated through interactions with cofactors, chromatin remodelers, and other regulatory proteins, which are dependent on cell context and physiological state.

Physiological importance and control of non-shivering facultative thermogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This review examines general and evolutionary aspects of temperature homeostasis, focusing on mammalian facultative or adaptive thermogenesis and its control by the sympathetic nervous system and hormones.

Slit2/Robo Signaling Restores Diabetic Erectile Function via Neurovascular Remodeling

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Diabetes mellitus‐induced erectile dysfunction (DMED) is a common and debilitating vascular‐neurogenic complication of diabetes. The poor responsiveness of DMED patients to phosphodiesterase type‐5 inhibitors underscores the need for therapies capable of restoring both endothelial integrity and cavernous nerve function.
