The Genome Sequence of the Thermoacidophilic Scavenger Thermoplasma acidophilum [PDF]
Thermoplasma acidophilum is a thermoacidophilic archaeon that thrives at 59 degrees C and pH 2, which was isolated from self-heating coal refuse piles and solfatara fields(1,2).

The Main (Glyco) Phospholipid (MPL) of Thermoplasma acidophilum [PDF]
The main phospholipid (MPL) of Thermoplasma acidophilum DSM 1728 was isolated, purified and physico-chemically characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)/differential thermal analysis (DTA) for its thermotropic behavior, alone and in ...

Proteasome From Thermoplasma acidophilum: A Threonine Protease
The catalytic mechanism of the 20S proteasome from the archaebacterium Thermoplasma acidophilum has been analyzed by site-directed mutagenesis of the beta subunit and by inhibitor studies.

The Crystal Structure of Glucose Dehydrogenase From Thermoplasma acidophilum [PDF]
Background: The archaea are a group of organisms distinct from bacteria and eukaryotes. Structures of proteins from archaea are of interest because they function in extreme environments and because structural studies may reveal evolutionary relationships

Expression of Functional Thermoplasma acidophilum Proteasomes in Escherichia coli
The two genes encoding the constituent subunits of the Thermoplasma acidophilum proteasome were expressed in Escherichia coli yielding fully assembled molecules as shown by electron microscopy. The recombinant proteasomes were purified to homogeneity and

The Proteasome From Thermoplasma acidophilum Is Neither a Cysteine nor a Serine Protease
The 20 S proteasome, found in eukaryotes and in the archaebacterium Thermoplasma acidophilum, forms the proteolytic core of the 26 S proteasome which is the central protease of the non-lysosomal protein degradation pathway, Inhibitor studies have ...

Membrane properties of Thermoplasma acidophila
Biochemistry, 1975Plasma membranes were isolated from Thermoplasma acidophila, a mycoplasma-like organism which grows optimally at pH 2 and 59 degrees. Cells in concentrated suspensions were lysed by titrating to pH 9.3. The membranes were purified by washing at pH 10 and centrifuging in a discontinuous sucrose gradient.

Intracellular pH of Thermoplasma acidophila
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1975Thermoplasma acidophila, a mycoplasma-like organism, was grown at 56 degrees C and pH 2. The intracellular pH of this organism is close to neutral as measured by the distribution of a radioactive weak organic acid, 5,5-dimethyl-2,4-oxazolidinedione, across the plasma membrane. The cell can maintain the pH gradient when subjected to heat or to metabolic

Thermoplasma acidophilum and Thermoplasma volcanium sp. nov. from Solfatara Fields
Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 1988Summary Twenty-three isolates of motile, cell wall-deficient, thermoacidophilic archaebacteria were obtained from hot acidic springs, soils and sediments within solfatara fields in the Azores, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, and the United States. They are facultatively anaerobic organotrophs. Anaerobically, the isolates gain energy by sulfur respiration.
