Clinical pharmacology and prescribing education: An updated medical school curriculum from the British Pharmacological Society

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 6, Page 1787-1808, June 2026.
Aims Prescribing is a complex, essential skill that doctors must acquire to practice medicine safely and effectively. The British Pharmacological Society has historically provided a core curriculum to guide clinical pharmacology and prescribing education in UK medical schools.

Severe Restriction of Glucose Import Enhances Recombinant Protein Production in Escherichia coli

open access: yesBiotechnology Journal, Volume 21, Issue 6, June 2026.
Graphical Abstract and Lay Summary Producing recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli is often limited by the bacterium's tendency to consume glucose too rapidly. This excessive glucose uptake causes overflow metabolism, leading to the accumulation of acetate, a byproduct that can reduce cellular performance and protein production.

Genetically Programmed Control of Overflow Metabolism

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 6, Page 1624-1633, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Overflow metabolism is a highly undesirable phenomenon that occurs in virtually all cell factories. Although several schemes have been applied to avoid overflow metabolism, this problem remains far from being solved. In this study, a genetic sensor for detecting overflow metabolism was designed, and its substrate specificity and reversibility ...

Vitamins as potent cancer treatments through regulating the activity and expression of MMP‐2 and MMP‐9

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, Volume 47, Issue 6, Page 745-755, June 2026.
Vitamins could regulate both MMP‐2 and MMP‐9 expression and activity through transcriptional and MAPK signaling pathway modulation. This study highlights the potential of vitamins as low‐toxicity therapeutic or adjunct agents for targeting MMP‐mediated cancer progression. Abstract Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP‐2 and MMP‐9) are key regulators of cancer

Severe Lactic Acidosis in Decompensated Cirrhosis Despite Nondiagnostic Imaging

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Lactic acidosis is a strong predictor of mortality in cirrhosis, reflecting both impaired hepatic clearance and systemic tissue hypoxia. We describe a 38‐year‐old man with decompensated alcohol‐associated cirrhosis who developed severe lactic acidosis despite stable hemodynamics and initially nondiagnostic vascular imaging.

Bioenhancer‐Driven Modulation of Membrane Dynamics Improves B‐Vitamin Uptake in Caco‐2 Cells

open access: yesChemFoodChem, Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2026.
Natural bioenhancers such as extracts from ginger, turmeric, black pepper, and spearmint increase the uptake of vitamins B1, B5, B6, and B7 in Caco‐2 cells. Micellized formulations further increase efficacy. These findings indicate that altered membrane fluidity contributes to enhanced cellular absorption, providing a new route to improve vitamin B ...
