Average UV Quasar Spectra in the Context of Eigenvector 1: A Baldwin Effect Governed by Eddington Ratio?

open access: yes, 2004
We present composite UV spectra for low redshift Type 1 AGN binned to exploit the information content of the Eigenvector 1 (E1) parameter space. Composite spectra allow a decomposition of the CIV1549 line profile - one of the strongest high-ionization ...

Thick Composite Structures under a Load Pinch [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Research, 2015
Thick composites are increasingly used in the design of mechanical structures. Combined with low weight, they are generally resistant structures, which can support importante loads. In addition, depending on the number and nature of the materials used, it is possible to adapt properties for specific applications (damping structures). This work proposes ...

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Ultrasonic NDE of thick composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A series of ultrasonic techniques being developed for the characterization of thick composites are described. Techniques for the in-situ measurements of elastic constants on thick-walled cylinders based on the times of a variety of ultrasonic modes of ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Study of Silicon Composite for Negative Electrode of Lithium-Ion Battery

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2016
Using of layered silicon-based composites instead of thick-film silicon electrodes is an effective way for improvement of their cycling stability. In the present work, the transformation of electrode with layered Si-O-Al composite at cycling is studied ...

Impact perforation testing of stab-resistant armour materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
This paper describes the development of a method for the investigation and comparison of materials for use in stab resistant body armour. A number of polymer composite panels of different thicknesses and construction have been tested.

Effects of thickness stretching in functionally graded plates and shells

open access: yes, 2011
1The present work evaluates the effect of thickness stretching in plate/shell structures made by materials which are functionally graded (FGM) in the thickness directions.

Strong enhancement of direct magnetoelectric effect in strained ferroelectric-ferromagnetic thin-film heterostructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The direct magnetoelectric (ME) effect resulting from the polarization changes induced in a ferroelectric film by the application of a magnetic field to a ferromagnetic substrate is described using the nonlinear thermodynamic theory. It is shown that the
