A mixed thinning based geometric INAR(1) model

open access: yes, 2017
In this article a geometrically distributed integer-valued autoregressive model of order one based on the mixed thinning operator is introduced. This new thinning operator is defined as a probability mixture of two well known thinning operators,

Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

High‐Entropy Alloy Interlayers Toward Advanced Joining for High‐Performance Structural Applications: Current Progress and Emerging Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
HEA interlayers offer a versatile route for joining high‐performance structural materials. Their compositional and structural design regulates interfacial reactions, suppresses brittle IMCs, and improves metallurgical bonding. Sandwich interlayers further integrate defect healing with precipitation strengthening, enabling improved strength–ductility ...

Effects of Mg on Microstructure and Solidification of a Hypereutectic Zn–8 wt.%Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An appreciable set of results involving thermal data, microstructure, chemical composition, and microstructural growth laws is reported for ZnAlMg alloys. Such results demonstrate that ZnAlMg alloys have high potential for applications in automotive self‐lubricating components, batteries, and electrical systems.

Labor field-transit machines: Planting, thinning, weeding, other hand operations in some row crops facilitated by within-field transportation for labor

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1957
Developed—primarily—for use in vegetable crops, labor transport machines consist essentially of a frame mounted across the rear of a wheel tractor to extend outward far enough to carry several laborers who ride in a prone position and perform such ...

Scalp micropigmentation: a promising camouflage modality

open access: yesJournal of Cosmetic Medicine
Hair loss is a common condition with significant psychosocial impact. While multiple treatment modalities exist, each has limitations. Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) has emerged as a minimally invasive cosmetic technique to improve the visual appearance ...

Cryogenic Deformation Behavior of TiAl and Insights Into Embrittlement After High‐Temperature Exposure Combined With Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy of Near Surface Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Near‐surface deuterium enrichment profiles for different microstructural types of TiAl after exposure at 700 °C in a heavy water‐containing environment. The deuterium levels are significantly higher than expected from natural occurrence, indicating that the heavy water dissociated during the exposure treatment and entered the specimens.

A Contour Approach to Thinning Algorithms

open access: yes, 2009
Thinning algorithms are widely used in many image processing tasks. Many thinning algorithms were proposed but they usually tend to process all image pixels in every iteration. Two approaches to contour thinning are described and a short discussion about
