Publisher Summary This chapter discusses about the determination of thiocyanate and thiosulfate. Several methods are used for the analytical determination of inorganic thiocyanate. These include procedures based on the formation of colored complexes, either with ferric ions or with cupric ions and pyridine, or on oxidation with bromine followed by ...

Microbial transformation of thiocyanate
Environmental Pollution, 1990Thiocyanate is present in appreciable concentration in coal carbonization wastewater along with other toxicants like phenols, cyanide, sulphide and ammonia. This paper encompasses studies on biodegradation of thiocyanate by a microbial consortium obtained from a biological treatment plant receiving coal carbonization wastewater.

Copper-catalyzed cyanation of disulfides by azobisisobutyronitrile leading to thiocyanates.
Chemical Communications, 2014The copper-catalyzed cyanation of disulfides by azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) was developed, leading to thiocyanates in moderate to good yields. This procedure tolerates a series of functional groups, such as chloro, nitro, methyl and methoxycarbonyl in ...

Excretion of Thiocyanate in Osteolathyrism [PDF]
THE metabolism and mode of action of nitriles, such as β-aminopropionitrile (BAPN), that cause osteolathyrism in rats and other animals are far from being understood. Lalich1 has shown that after injection into rats of BAPN labelled in the cyano position with carbon-14, 80–90 per cent of the radioactive material was eliminated in the urine within 20 h.

A convenient procedure for one-pot conversion of alcohols into the corresponding alkyl thiocyanates in the presence of cross-linked poly (N-propyl-4-vinylpyridinium) thiocyanate ion [P4-VP]Pr-SCN, promoted by cyanuric chloride/dimethylformamide, is ...

AbstractTreatment of indole, 2‐phenylindole, 2‐methylindole, and ethyl indole‐2‐carboxylate with thiocyanogen in acetic acid at 0° afforded the corresponding 3‐thiocyanatoindoles in quantitative yields, whereas similar treatment of 3‐methyl‐2‐phenylindoles and 2,3‐diphenylindoles gave the corresponding 6‐thiocyanatoindoles in high yields.

AbstractIn the presence of moisture and oxygen, thiocyanates at high concentration undergo a photocatalysed degradation to give a bright-yellow product. For Harrow sunlight there is a critical concentration near 1.5M, below which solutions of ammonium thiocyanate do not discolour.

Salivary Thiocyanate in Smokers [PDF]
To the Editor.— Letters in the March 8 issue of JAMA debate the value of salivary thiocyanate measurement in distinguishing smokers from non-smokers. 1 Prior studies have indeed concentrated on making this differentiation rather than on correlating the thiocyanate level in particular cases to the quantity of cigarettes smoked.

The mechanism of the desulphurizing action of alkali cyanides on thiuram and xanthogen disulphides has been determined. The reaction is shown to take place in two steps, the intermediate products formed in the first step have been identified as ...
