The Thiol Groups of Fumarase

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1967
Several reagents have been employed to determine the role of the thiol groups in fumarase. The nature of the reaction of these reagents indicates that the thiol groups are not associated with active site structures but are buried in a hydrophobic environment in the interior of the enzyme. Several observations are in accord with this view.

Carboxymethylation of Thiol Groups in Ovalbumin: Implications for Proteins that Contain Both Thiol and Disulfide Groups [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Biological Sciences, 1982
The cysteine residues of hen ovalbumin were S-carboxymethylated with non-radioactive iodoacetic acid under various conditions by altering the pH at which the protein was denatured in 8 M urea, by using different molar ratios of non-radioactive iodoacetic acid to cysteine and by varying the time at which carboxymethylation was commenced after denaturing

Evaluation of Dynamic Thiol/Disulfide Homeostasis in Patients with Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Tumor

open access: yesJournal of Urological Surgery, 2023
Objective:To evaluate the thiol-disulfide homeostasis in patients with a diagnosis of non-muscle invasive bladder tumor (NMIBC), which is a new oxidative stress marker, and to investigate the relationship between the development of NMIBC and native thiol,

Transfructosylation of Thiol Group by β-Fructofuranosidases

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2000
Beta-fructofuranosidase fructosylated not only the hydroxyl group but also the thiol group of 2-mercaptoethanol in a transfer reaction using sucrose as a donor substrate. The enzymes from Candida utilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (bakers' yeast) were effective catalysts for the thio-fructofuranosylation.

Galactosylation of Thiol Group by β-Galactosidase

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2000
beta-Galactosidase catalyzed beta-galactosylation not only of a hydroxyl group but also of a thiol group in the condensation reaction of D-galactose and 2-mercaptoethanol. The thio-galactosylation product was confirmed as 2-hydroxyethyl S-beta-D-galactoside on the bases of fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear ...
