Chemistry of Metabolites of Thioureas

1986
Thiourea and some monosubstituted thioureas are toxic and tumorogenic while 1,3-diarylthioureas are not. There are strong indications that the biological activity of these compounds is due to oxidation at sulfur followed by reactions in which the sulfur moiety is separated from the rest of the molecule.

Sublimation enthalpies and entropies of thiourea, 1-methyl-2-thiourea, 1,3-dimethyl-2-thiourea, and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-2-thiourea

The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1994
Abstract The torsion-effusion technique was used to determine the vapour-pressure dependence on temperature for thiourea (TU); 1-methyl-2-thiourea (MMTU); 1,3-dimethyl-2-thiourea (DMTU); and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-2-thiourea (TMTU). The following pressure-against-temperature equations were obtained: for TU(cr), lg( p /kPa) = (11.40 ± 0.25) - (5711 ± 100)

Matrix and ab initio infrared spectra of thiourea and thiourea-d4

Vibrational Spectroscopy, 1998
Abstract The FTIR spectrum of thiourea and thiourea-d 4 isolated in argon and nitrogen matrices are presented for the first time and discussed in terms of normal modes predicted by ab initio calculations. Vibrational frequencies, IR intensities and isotopic shifts obtained from the density functional B3-LYP/6-31+G(2d,p) calculations show the most ...

Potentiation of glucose-induced insulin release by thiourea and thiourea derivatives

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 1984
The effect of thiourea and its derivatives, including methyl- and propylthiouracil as well as the imidazole derivative thiamazole on glucose-induced insulin secretion from incubated rat pancreatic islets was studied. Additionally, the effect of a single oral dose of propylthiouracil on plasma insulin and glucose tolerance was tested in anaesthetized ...

A single thiourea group is not enough to get stable thiourea lipoplexes

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
The preparation of a new family of lipothiourea is reported using an automatic synthetic workstation. In these compounds the headgroups were made from single thiourea derivatives. The physicochemical properties and the transfection efficiency of several members of the family were studied. It was found that in the presence of DMPC small lipoplexes could

Biological transformation of thiourea

Archiv fr Mikrobiologie, 1957
Six strains of fungi: two Aspergilli of the A. glaucus group, Penicillium sp. Trichoderma viride, and two unidentified dark fungi, were found able to use thiourea as a source of nitrogen. One of the Aspergilli and the Penicillium showed the best utilization, but the growth was always slow, and no more than 50% (usually much less) of the thiourea ...
