Bronchial and arterial sleeve resection for centrally-located lung cancers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The use of bronchial and arterial sleeve resections for the treatment of centrally-located lung cancers, when available, has become the option of choice in comparison with pneumonectomy (PN). Technical expertise, in particular in vascular reconstruction,

Nanogel Integrated Zwitterionic Injectable Hydrogel with Sequential Drug‐Releasing Capability for the Programmable Repair of Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel drug‐loaded D/P‐g‐PSB nanogel‐incorporated hydrogel by the electrostatic attraction‐driven self‐assembling process. Sequential drug releasing property (melatonin is released first by physical diffusion, and then ibuprofen is released as the charge shielding effect and hydrogel degradation). This ion‐sensitive hydrogel platform with sequentially

TGFβ (transforming growth factor-β) blockade induces a human-like disease in a nondissecting mouse model of abdominal aortic aneurysm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objective-Current experimental models of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) do not accurately reproduce the major features of human AAA. We hypothesized that blockade of TGF beta (transforming growth factor-beta) activity-a guardian of vascular integrity ...

FSTL1 Orchestrates Metabolic‐Epigenetic Crosstalk: Glycolysis‐Dependent H3K18 Lactylation Drives Cartilage Fibrosis in Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FSTL1 promotes glycolysis during chondrocyte fibrosis by triggering the HIF‐1 signaling pathway, which causes lactate to accumulate. The buildup of lactate leads to changes in histone lysine lactylation, which in turn enhances the expression of genes associated with fibrosis.

Body physique and heart rate variability determine the occurrence of stair-step artefacts in 64-slice CT coronary angiography with prospective ECG-triggering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The purpose of this study was to describe and characterize the frequency and extent of stair-step artefacts in computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) with prospective electrocardiogram (ECG)-triggering and to identify their determinants.

Real‐Time In Vivo Monitoring of Anastomotic Intestinal Ischemia Using Implantable Resorbable Organic Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Resorbable impedance sensors are successfully implanted into porcine small intestinal anastomoses. Impedance was recorded for 2 hours prior, and 2 hours following ischemia induction, and a significant drop in tissue impedance was observed. Abstract Anastomotic failure remains one of the most severe complications in gastrointestinal surgery.

Unusual variant of an accessory thoracic muscle

open access: yesFolia Morphologica
BACKGROUND: The anterior thoracic wall musculature presents significant morphological variability. The literature describes a few accessory thoracic muscles (ATMs) and discusses possible clinical implications. A dissection report describes an unusual ATM

Using Local Flaps in a Chest Wall Reconstruction after Mastectomy for Locally Advanced Breast Cancer

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2015
Background Surgical ablation for locally advanced breast cancer results in large chest wall defects, which can then be managed with local flaps or skin grafts. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the outcomes of three types of local skin flaps.
