A draft genome assembly of southern bluefin tuna Thunnus maccoyii [PDF]
Tuna are large pelagic fish whose populations are close to panmixia. In addition, they are threatened species, so it is important for the maintenance and monitoring of genetic diversity that genetic information at a genome level be obtained. Here we report the draft assembly of the southern bluefin tuna genome and the collection of genome-wide sequence

A Phase‐Separated SR Protein Reprograms Host Pre‐mRNA Splicing to Enhance Disease Susceptibility
This study identifies SR30, a splicing factor, as a negative regulator of tomato immunity. During Phytophthora infestans infection, the elevated SR30 forms nuclear condensates to suppress the alternative splicing (AS) of defense‐related genes in a phase separation manner.

The bottom-up assessment of threatened species [PDF]
Identifying the percentage of endangered species is crucial for the protection of biodiversity from local to global levels. However, the high costs of species evaluation jeopardise the feasibility of evaluating all world species. We propose a model to consolidate imperfect local assessments to a first (conservative) estimation of national to global ...

Habitat restoration will prove critical if we are to reverse current population declines and extinction rates of Threatened species. This is particularly the case for forest restoration, given that >80% of Threatened species live in forests and they are ...

The hydrogel incorporates Ag⁺‐loaded Preyssler‐type polyoxometalates (POMs) that release Ag⁺ ions in response to endogenous Na⁺ ions, ensuring controlled antibacterial activity. The spatially heterogeneous structure, created through dual‐channel fiber stacking and in situ cross‐linking, enhances structural integrity and promotes tissue regeneration ...

AI-based Mapping of the Conservation Status of Orchid Assemblages at Global Scale [PDF]
Although increasing threats on biodiversity are now widely recognised, there are no accurate global maps showing whether and where species assemblages are at risk. We hereby assess and map at kilometre resolution the conservation status of the iconic orchid family, and discuss the insights conveyed at multiple scales.

This study uncovers that CD38high monocytes discriminate sepsis and sterile inflammation and are associated with 28‐day mortality in bacterial sepsis. Targeting CD38 therapy reduces inflammatory response in monocytes and in sepsis mice model. Mechanistically, CD38‐HIF‐1α/glycolysis/MGO loop exacerbates sepsis‐induced immune dysregulation.

Detecting Endangered Marine Species in Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Imagery Using Point Annotations and Few-Shot Learning [PDF]
One use of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) is the monitoring of habitats associated with threatened, endangered and protected marine species, such as the handfish of Tasmania, Australia. Seafloor imagery collected by AUVs can be used to identify individuals within their broader habitat context, but the sheer volume of imagery collected can ...

Combining geodiversity with climate and topography to account for threatened species richness
Understanding threatened species diversity is important for long‐term conservation planning. Geodiversity—the diversity of Earth surface materials, forms, and processes—may be a useful biodiversity surrogate for conservation and have conservation value ...
