Estimation of the general threshold limit values for dust

open access: yesInternational Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 2003
In 1997 the German MAK Commission set new general threshold limit values for dust. The procedure has recently been assessed (McLaughlin et al. 2001). One of the points raised was the use of inappropriate statistical methods. We want to address this point to a greater extent by discussing several alternatives implied by the already established threshold

Should limit values be set for infrasound caused by wind turbines?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health
The study focuses on setting outdoor exposure limits for wind turbine infrasound, as most countries currently have no specific limits for this type of noise.

Lower Limit of Percolation Threshold on Square Lattice with Complex Neighborhoods

open access: yesEntropy
In this paper, the 60-year-old concept of long-range interaction in percolation problems introduced by Dalton, Domb and Sykes is reconsidered. With Monte Carlo simulation—based on the Newman–Ziff algorithm and the finite-size scaling hypothesis—we ...

Expressiveness and Closure Properties for Quantitative Languages [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2010
Weighted automata are nondeterministic automata with numerical weights on transitions. They can define quantitative languages~$L$ that assign to each word~$w$ a real number~$L(w)$.

How fast can vanadium dioxide neuron-mimicking devices oscillate? Physical mechanisms limiting the frequency of vanadium dioxide oscillators

open access: yesNeuromorphic Computing and Engineering, 2023
The frequency of vanadium dioxide (VO _2 ) oscillators is a fundamental figure of merit for the realization of neuromorphic circuits called oscillatory neural networks (ONNs) since the high frequency of oscillators ensures low-power consuming, real-time ...

A Preliminary Study on the Interplay between the Serum Levels of Neurotransmitters and Thyroid Hormones for the Evaluation of the Behavioral Phenotype of Dogs

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
A total of 112 dogs (49 males and 63 females) belonging to different breeds (i.e., Boxer, Cirneco dell’Etna, Fonni’s Dog, Labrador, Crossbreed, German Shepherd, Pit Bull, Shar-Pei, Yorkshire) were analyzed to compare the serum concentration of serotonin,

Novel Threshold Changeable Secret Sharing Schemes Based on Polynomial Interpolation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
After any distribution of secret sharing shadows in a threshold changeable secret sharing scheme, the threshold may need to be adjusted to deal with changes in the security policy and adversary structure.

Asymptotic critical behavior of holographic superconductor phase transition — the spectrum of excited states becomes continuous at T = 0

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
Within the framework of AdS/CFT duality, excited states of the conformal field living at the global AdS boundary of a four-dimensional spacetime Einstein gravity are investigated analytically in the probe limit where the field equations are linearized ...

Lithium-ion electrolytic substrates for sub-1V high-performance transition metal dichalcogenide transistors and amplifiers

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Electrostatic gating of 2D transistors with ionic liquids presents intrinsic limitations. Here, the authors demonstrate n-type MoS2 and p-type WSe2 transistors on a lithium-ion solid electrolyte substrate, displaying sub-threshold values approaching the ...
