Compliance between Food and Feed Safety: Eight-Year Survey (2013–2021) of Aflatoxin M1 in Raw Milk and Aflatoxin B1 in Feed in Northern Italy

open access: yesToxins, 2023
Aflatoxins (AFs) are fungal metabolites that are found in feed and food. When ruminants eat feed contaminated with aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), it is metabolised and aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) is excreted in the milk. Aflatoxins can result in hepatotoxic, carcinogenic,

Which Extreme Values Are Really Extreme? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We define the extreme values of any random sample of size n from a distribution function F as the observations exceeding a threshold and following a type of generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) involving the tail index of F.

Comparison of automatic and visual methods used for image segmentation in Endodontics: a microCT study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Oral Science
To calculate root canal volume and surface area in microCT images, an image segmentation by selecting threshold values is required, which can be determined by visual or automatic methods. Visual determination is influenced by the operator's visual acuity,

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Threshold effects in multivariate error correction models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper we propose a testing procedure for assessing the presence of threshold effects in nonstationary Vector autoregressive models with or without cointegration.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

GEOCHEMICAL DISTRIBUTION AND THRESHOLD VALUES DETERMINATION OF HEAVY METALS IN STREAM WATER IN THE SUB-BASINS OF VERMELHO AND SORORÓ RIVERS, ITACAIÚNAS RIVER WATERSHED, EASTERN AMAZON, BRAZIL

open access: yesGeochimica Brasiliensis, 2018
Geochemical survey in the Vermelho (VSB) and Sororó (SSB) sub-basins of the Itacaiúnas basin in southeastern Amazonian region has shown that the physical-chemical parameters of stream water do not display accentuated variations between the rainy and dry ...

Study on Angular Free Vibration Stability and Parameters Influence of Dry Gas Seal Based on the Characteristic Equation

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2022
Based on Laplace transform and Hurwitz stability criterion, the system characteristic equation and algebraic stability criterion of the two degree-of-freedom angular free vibration of dry gas seal are derived. The effects of rotational inertia, stiffness
