Nonstationarity and Nonlinearity in the US Unemployment Rate: A Re-examination [PDF]
Conventional econometric tests cannot distinguish nonstationarity from nonlinearity because of the joint modeling of unit roots with threshold effects. Caner–Hansen (CH, 2001) provides a new test which for the first time can simultaneously test for both (

Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

A new threshold rule for the estimation of a deterministic image immersed in noise is proposed. The full estimation procedure is based on a separable wavelet decomposition of the observed image, and the estimation is improved by introducing the new ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Prediction of threshold value for FGA formation
This paper studies the formation mechanism of fine granular area (FGA) in high-strength steels and predicts the threshold value of its formation. Fatigue experiments are carried out by using rotating bending and ultrasonic fatigue testing machines on a ...

Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The Codex Process: The Threshold of Continuity
This paper identifies the minimal structural conditions required for the Codex Process—relation, cause, effect, feedback, recursion, and continuity—to arise. Rather than proposing a specific ontology or physical substrate, it maps the constraints any substrate must satisfy to support distinction, persistent structure, and recursive reapplication. These
