Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Light storage protocols in Tm:YAG

open access: yes, 2009
We present two quantum memory protocols for solids: A stopped light approach based on spectral hole burning and the storage in an atomic frequency comb. These procedures are well adapted to the rare-earth ion doped crystals.

Wideband saturable absorption in few-layer molybdenum diselenide (MoSe₂) for Q-switching Yb-, Er- and Tm-doped fiber lasers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We fabricate a free-standing molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2) saturable absorber by embedding liquid-phase exfoliated few-layer MoSe2 flakes into a polymer film.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Application of Thulium Fiber Laser in Plastic Surgery

open access: yesCosmetics
We present our experience of using the UROLASE+ surgical system, based on thulium laser technology, in the context of plastic surgery. Our work with the thulium fiber laser for soft tissue dissection in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo is described, and the ...

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Evidence of the efficacy and safety of the thulium laser in the treatment of men with benign prostatic obstruction

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Urology, 2016
In 2005, the high power thulium laser was introduced for the surgical treatment of benign prostatic obstruction. It has several properties that confer theoretical advantages over other lasers used for the same indication, such as technical versatility ...

Simulation of Optical Fiber Amplifier Gain Using Equivalent Short Fibers

open access: yes, 2019
Electromagnetic wave propagation in optical fiber amplifiers obeys Maxwell equations. Using coupled mode theory, the full Maxwell system within an optical fiber amplifier is reduced to a simpler model.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...
