Is There a Winner? Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing SuperPulse Thulium Fiber Laser vs Pulse-Modulated High-Power Holmium:YAG Laser for Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery

Journal of Urology
Purpose: Pulse-modulated holmium:YAG (Ho:YAG) and SuperPulse thulium fiber laser are high-power laser systems used for retrograde intrarenal surgery. We conducted a prospective randomized trial to compare lithotripsy efficiency, complications, and stone ...

High Power Thulium Fiber Lasers

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
Recent years have seen a phenomenal rise in the capabilities of high power fibers lasers. 10 kW is now achievable in single‐mode fiber and the race is on to break the 100 kW mark. This has been enabled with the development of high power 976 nm pump diodes, ideally matched for efficiently exciting the ∼1030–1080 nm transition in Yb‐doped silica fibers ...

1030-nm passively Q-switched ytterbium-doped fiber laser using excited-state absorption of thulium fiber

, 2019
We demonstrated a pulsed ytterbium all-fiber laser passively $Q$Q-switched using excited-state absorption of thulium fiber and a mode-field-area mismatch.

Monolithic thulium-doped fiber laser

Photonics, Devices, and Systems VII, 2017
In this contribution we report and discuss the results of laser characterizations of experimental thulium-doped optical fibers. These active fibers were fabricated in house and were tested in two laser systems to verify their characteristics. The first one, a monolithic fiber laser, was of great interest to us due to its potentially lower overall ...

Thulium fiber laser damage to the ureter

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
Our laboratory is studying experimental thulium fiber laser (TFL) as a potential alternative lithotripter to the clinical gold standard Holmium:YAG laser. Safety studies characterizing undesirable Holmium laser-induced damage to ureter tissue have been previously reported.

Thulium Fiber Laser Versus Holmium:Yttrium Aluminum Garnet for Lithotripsy: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

European Urology
CONTEXT Thulium fiber laser (TFL) emerged as a competitor of holmium:yttrium aluminum garnet (Ho:YAG) laser for the treatment of urinary stones. OBJECTIVE To compare the efficacy between Ho:YAG and TFL for laser lithotripsy of renal and ureteral stones.

Thulium Fiber Laser Enucleation of the Prostate: Prospective Study of Mid- and Long-Term Outcomes in 1328 Patients

Journal of endourology, 2022
Objective: The objective of our study was to estimate the long-term efficacy and safety of thulium fiber laser enucleation of the prostate (ThuFLEP). Materials and Methods: We analyzed patients who underwent ThuFLEP due to lower urinary tract symptoms ...

Thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser

SPIE Proceedings, 1999
The thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser is emitting visible radiation through an upconversion process which allows for the generation of hundreds of milliwatts of output power at 480 nm. The main features of this laser are presented and analyzed on the basis of an equation rate analysis.

Influence of fiber diameter on thulium fiber laser lithotripsy

Translational Biophotonics: Diagnostics and Therapeutics IV
The influence of fiber diameter on stone dusting and retropulsion during lithotripsy was investigated in single-pulse experiments with BegoStones and a pendulum-setup. It was found that thinner fibers ensure less retropulsion without reducing material removal.

Comparing Pediatric Ureteroscopy Outcomes with SuperPulsed Thulium Fiber Laser and Low-Power Holmium:YAG Laser

Journal of Urology, 2022
Purpose: The thulium fiber laser is a promising new lithoptripsy technology never before studied in the pediatric population. Our center adopted the first platform in North America, the SuperPulsed thulium fiber laser (SPTF). We aimed to compare outcomes
