Fatal Chronic Varicella‐Zoster Viral Infection in a Young Man With Chediak–Higashi Syndrome

open access: yesPediatric Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chediak–Higashi syndrome (CHS) is a rare autosomal recessive primary immunodeficiency characterized by partial oculocutaneous albinism, neurologic involvement, and a predisposition to severe infections. Patients are particularly susceptible to developing hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), which significantly worsens prognosis. We report

Functional investigation of the RHD gene promoter: Molecular changes are rarely responsible for variant D phenotype in Thai donors

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background While modern technology is increasingly available to identify efficiently the molecular alterations responsible for variant phenotype, a subset of samples still escapes those analyses. In addition to the promoter region, two intronic regions containing GATA1 binding sites within the RHD gene locus were recently shown to modulate the

Herpes simplex keratitis: Challenges in diagnosis and clinical management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Herpes simplex virus is responsible for numerous ocular diseases, the most common of which is herpetic stromal keratitis. This is a recurrent infection of the cornea that typically begins with a subclinical infection of the cornea that establishes a ...

An Adenovirus Vector Containing the Suicide Gene Thymidine Kinase for a Broad Application in Cancer Gene Therapy

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2002
Treatment of cancer using gene therapy is based on adding a property to the cell leading to its elimination. One possibility is the use of suicide genes that code for enzymes that transform a pro-drug into a cytotoxic product.

Proteomic Profiling of Plasma to Uncover Novel Intervention Targets and Prognostic Biomarkers for Chronic Liver Diseases

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 6, Page 5029-5042, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims The burden of chronic liver disease (CLD) is increasing. This study aims to identify protein markers for CLD and its progression, and develop a protein‐based risk prediction model. Materials and Methods We used proteome‐wide Mendelian randomization (MR), Bayesian colocalization and summary‐data‐based MR with proteomic data from deCODE ...

Aurora kinase A drives the evolution of resistance to third-generation EGFR inhibitors in lung cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Although targeted therapies often elicit profound initial patient responses, these effects are transient due to residual disease leading to acquired resistance.

Monoclonal Antibodies Accessing the Cytosol of Living Cells and Binding to Polo‐Like Kinase 1 Interdomain Linker Affect Mitotic Behavior

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 9, 14 May 2026.
Monoclonal antibodies targeting the interdomain region of polo‐like kinase 1 (PLK1) were delivered into living HeLa cells by electroporation to directly modulate mitotic progression. This intracellular antibody approach provides a new tool to probe PLK1 function and highlights the potential of antibodies to regulate key mitotic regulators inside cells.

Fruquintinib Plus TAS‐102 With or Without SBRT as Third‐ Or Later‐Line Therapy for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: Preliminary Results From a Prospective Phase II Trial

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Both fruquintinib and TAS‐102 monotherapies are guideline‐recommended for third‐line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). This study aimed to analyze the preliminary outcomes of fruquintinib combined with TAS‐102, with or without stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), as a third‐ or later‐line therapy for mCRC.

SDF-1 and PDGF enhance [alpha]v[beta]5-mediated ERK activation and adhesion-independent growth of human pre-B cell lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
CD23 acts through the [alpha]v[beta]5 integrin to promote growth of human pre-B cell lines in an adhesion-independent manner. [alpha]v[beta]5 is expressed on normal B-cell precursors in the bone marrow.
