Familial papillary carcinoma of the thyroid
American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1986Of 226 consecutive papillary carcinoma patients, 14 indicated that at least one other relative was similarly affected. Pathology confirmation was obtained in 8 of the 14 families. Of the eight families with documented familial papillary carcinoma, one had five members, another had four members, and yet another had three members affected.

Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America, 1990
Multiple prognostic factors for outcome in papillary thyroid carcinoma are identified. For a cohort of 1500 consecutive patients followed an average of 16 years, survival rates for tumor recurrence and cause-specific mortality are described. Risk groups derived from novel prognostic scoring or staging systems and the role of DNA ploidy testing are ...

Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid
Seminars in Surgical Oncology, 1991AbstractThe clinical behavior and mortality rate of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid varies widely, and clinically insignificant microscopic foci of the disease are frequently found. Dietary iodine and radiation to the head and neck in childhood play a role in etiology. Needle aspiration cytology provides a highly accurate diagnosis.

Familial Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
2006Over the last decade, several lines of evidence have been accumulated that support the existence of fPTC susceptibility genes. Preliminary clinical characteristics of fPTC have been identified, and linkage studies have identified the chromosomal locations of putative fPTC susceptibility genes. A logical clinical approach to fPTC is emerging.

Papillary and follicular thyroid carcinoma
Best Practice & Research Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2000Papillary and follicular thyroid carcinomas are among the most curable of all cancers. However, some patients are at high risk of recurrence or even death from their cancer. Most of these patients can be identified at the time of diagnosis using well-established prognostic indicators.

Thyroidectomy for Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
2022Papillary thyroid carcinoma is the most common endocrine malignancy and accounts for the overwhelming majority of thyroid carcinoma. This recent dramatic increase in incidence is almost exclusively attributed to the incidental detection of small papillary thyroid carcinoma or microcarcinoma. Surgical management of thyroid carcinoma has been evolving to

Papillary Carcinoma in an Ectopic Thyroid
Hormone Research, 2008Ectopic thyroid tissue can be seen anywhere from the foramen caecum to the lower neck. Most frequently it presents as a thyroglossal duct cyst associated with a normal thyroid gland. Less common is total ectopia, which can occur as a lingual thyroid or occasionally in non-lingual locations.

Oxyphilic Papillary Thyroid Carcinomas
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1995Oxyphilic papillary carcinomas of the thyroid have not been extensively studied because they are rare. The morphology and behavior of 34 cases were described. The average age was 44.1 years, the female-to-male ratio was 3.9:1, and the average diameter of the tumors was 2.3 cm. All had papillary structures present.

Occult Papillary Carcinoma of the Thyroid
Archives of Surgery, 1980Retrospective review was undertaken of 137 patients with occult papillary carcinoma of the thyroid (lesions less than or equal to 1.5 cm in diameter) who were operated on at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn, between 1926 and 1955. Mean follow-up period was 25.3 years. Operations were conservative. No patient underwent bilateral total lobectomy.

Virchows Archiv A Pathological Anatomy and Histology, 1982
It is generally believed that the histological pattern of papillary thyroid carcinomas has no influence on the course of the disease. However, we were puzzled by the evidence differences in the clinical course of these tumours and decided to re-examine all microscopic specimens available at the Institute of Pathology of the University of Zürich.
