Innovative Burn Treatment Using Tilapia Skin as a Xenograft: A Phase II Randomized Controlled Trial.
Journal of Burn Care & Research, 2020Skin substitutes are considered a useful alternative for occlusive dressings in the treatment of superficial burns as they reduce the frequency of dressing replacement.

Exploiting Transgenic Tilapia and the Tilapia Genome
2003The future importance of aquaculture is clearly very great because of the increased demand for fish and the decline of world capture fisheries. Tilapia fish are widely cultured in both the developed and developing world countries, and any methods for improving tilapia performance in aquaculture are of significance.

Stability of calcium-autolyzed calpain II from tilapia muscle (Tilapia nilotica X Tilapia aurea)
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1992The inactivation of calpain II (EC 3.4.22.17) from tilapia muscle was investigated. The thermal stability was enhanced by decreasing the water activity with the addition of sucrose at temperatures below 67.8 o C (isokinetic temperature). Addition of 30% sucrose caused the increase of the transition temperature and of the activation energy.

Since 2015, a novel orthomyxo-like virus, tilapia lake virus (TiLV) has been associated with outbreaks of disease and massive mortality of cultured Nile and red tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus and Oreochromis spp., respectively) in Thailand. In this study, TiLV was isolated from field samples and propagated in the permissive E-11 cell line, with ...

Antibacterial activity of tilapia Tilapia hornorum against Vibrio harveyi
Aquaculture, 2004Abstract Disease due to luminous Vibrio has been a major problem of the shrimp industry. Different technologies have been introduced to control the disease. One of the techniques reported to work against luminous bacteria in the Philippines is the green water culture system (or finfish–shrimp integrated culture system). A green water culture system

Calpain II, calcium actived neutral proteinase was purified by hydrophobic chromatography and subtrate affinity chromatography. Electrophoretic analysis and inhibitor specificity studies indicated that the calpain was a monomer. The molecular weight and cinetic properties was determined.

Digestion in Tilapia esculenta
Nature, 1951Tilapia esculenta is abundant in Lake Victoria, and is the most important food fish in this area. It has been stated1 that this fish feeds on phytoplankton. However, further investigations were undertaken, and the contents of stomach and rectum of the same specimen were examined and compared in a large number of fish taken at weekly intervals during ...

Minimal risk of tilapia lake virus transmission via frozen tilapia fillets
Journal of Fish Diseases, 2018AbstractRecent outbreaks of a novel tilapia lake virus (TiLV) have raised concerns regarding the international spread of TiLV in frozen tilapia products. This study investigated the potential risks of frozen tilapia fillet as a source of TiLV transmission. It revealed that TiLV genomic RNA could be detected in tilapia fillet and the virus isolated from
