Assessing the population transmission dynamics of tilapia lake virus in farmed tilapia
Journal of Fish Diseases, 2018AbstractA novel virus, tilapia lake virus (TiLV), has been identified as a key pathogen responsible for disease outbreak and mass mortality of farmed tilapia. We used a deterministic susceptible‐infectious‐mortality (SIM) model to derive key disease information appraised with published TiLV‐induced cumulative mortality data.

Stability of calcium-autolyzed calpain II from tilapia muscle (Tilapia nilotica X Tilapia aurea)
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1992The inactivation of calpain II (EC 3.4.22.17) from tilapia muscle was investigated. The thermal stability was enhanced by decreasing the water activity with the addition of sucrose at temperatures below 67.8 o C (isokinetic temperature). Addition of 30% sucrose caused the increase of the transition temperature and of the activation energy.

Tilapias are the second largest group of fish produced worldwide, due to their great plasticity and ideal aquaculture traits, particularly the Nile tilapia. On most tilapia farms, sex control is necessary to increase profitability, due to early and continuous reproduction and female mouth‐brooding, and to benefit from the males' faster growth rate ...

Calpain II, calcium actived neutral proteinase was purified by hydrophobic chromatography and subtrate affinity chromatography. Electrophoretic analysis and inhibitor specificity studies indicated that the calpain was a monomer. The molecular weight and cinetic properties was determined.
