Low-Mass Relics of Early Star Formation

open access: yes, 2003
The earliest stars to form in the Universe were the first sources of light, heat and metals after the Big Bang. The products of their evolution will have had a profound impact on subsequent generations of stars.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Photoelectric Observations and Analysis of the Contact Binary W UMa [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2001
The unpublished photoelectric observations of the contact binary W UMa in ultraviolet, blue, and yellow bandpasses made on four nights during the observing seasons from April, 1984 to May, 1985 were presented.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Glass transition and degree of conversion of a light-cured orthodontic composite

open access: yesJournal of Applied Oral Science, 2009
OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the glass transition temperature (Tg) and degree of conversion (DC) of a light-cured (Fill Magic) versus a chemically cured (Concise) orthodontic composite.

Minimum Exposure Time of Light-Emitting Diode (Led) Light Curing Machine in Reducing Class I Cavity Preparation Microbial Contaminants

open access: yes
Abstract: Cavity medication or disinfection is a common procedure after cavity preparation in order to remove debris and reduce microbial contaminants in the preparation before placement of any restorative material. However, the oral antiseptic solutions commonly used for this procedure potentially cause either irreparable pulpal damage or staining ...

Ten Kepler Eclipsing Binaries Containing the Third Components

open access: yes, 2015
Analyzing the available photometry from the Kepler satellite and other databases, we performed detailed light curve modeling of 10 eclipsing binary systems that were found to exhibit a periodic modulation of their orbital periods.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
