Comprehensive Study of the Performance of Winter Tires on Ice, Snow, and Asphalt Roads: The Influence of Tire Type and Wear

open access: yes, 2017
This work presents a comprehensive study of the performance of winter tires on snow, ice, and asphalt. A set of 77 different winter tires were carefully selected for the study. Of these, 27 were new and 50 were worn from real traffic use.

Predicting wear of UHMWPE: decreasing wear rate following a change in direction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Computational tools are emerging as design tools for the development of total joint replacement with improved wear performance. The current wear models of polyethylene assume that wear is linearly proportional to sliding distance; however, it is ...

A Review on Vehicle Tire Elastomers and Tire Wear Particles: Composition, Degradation Mechanisms, Analytical Methods, and Predictive Multiscale Computational Modeling

open access: yesAdvances in Polymer Technology
The study of the properties, chemical composition, and degradation patterns of rubber materials used in vehicle tires remains a complex and interdisciplinary task. Rubber for tires—more precisely, complex mixtures of elastomers containing fillers, plasticizers, binders, and other additives—is a condensed chemically active material, the composition and ...

On-Road Vehicle Measurement of Tire Wear Particle Emissions and Approach for Emission Prediction

open access: yesTire Science And Technology
ABSTRACT Airborne particulate matter has long been associated with negative environmental and health impacts. Tire wear, in the form of particulate matter and microplastics, also poses a potential hazard to human health and the ecosystem. In order to develop measures minimizing tire related pollution, it is necessary to identify and classify ...
