Integrative analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients: a comprehensive approach

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study simultaneously investigated circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The elevated expression of JUNB and CXCR4 in CTCs was a poor prognostic factor for SCLC patients, whereas exosomal overexpression of these biomarkers revealed a high discrimination ability of patients from healthy individuals,

Medial external fixation for staged treatment of closed calcaneus fractures: Surgical technique and case series

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2017
The derangement in calcaneal morphology after a fracture can be significant and is often associated with severe soft tissue envelop problems. Medial calcaneal external fixation is useful for early restoration of calcaneal morphology and the corresponding

Simultaneous Free Fibula and Anterolateral Thigh Flap in Lower Extremity Reconstruction Following Osteomyelitis in a Trauma Patient: A Case Report

open access: yesMedicina, 2023
This case report focuses on a 17-year-old polytrauma patient who suffered a septic wound infection after an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and soft tissue reconstruction with a pedicled flap, which led to a substantial bone and soft tissue ...

Addressing persistent challenges in digital image analysis of cancer tissue: resources developed from a hackathon

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Inhibition of acyl‐CoA synthetase long‐chain isozymes decreases multiple myeloma cell proliferation and causes mitochondrial dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Triacsin C inhibition of the acyl‐CoA synthetase long chain (ACSL) family decreases multiple myeloma cell survival, proliferation, mitochondrial respiration, and membrane potential. Made with Biorender.com. Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer of plasma cells with a 5‐year survival rate of 59%.

Cell‐free DNA aneuploidy score as a dynamic early response marker in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
mFast‐SeqS‐based genome‐wide aneuploidy scores are concordant with aneuploidy scores obtained by whole genome sequencing from tumor tissue and can predict response to ARSI treatment at baseline and, at an early time point, to ARSI and taxanes. This assay can be easily performed at low cost and requires little input of cfDNA. Cell‐free circulating tumor

Neon tetra fish (Paracheirodon innesi) as farm-to-optical-table Bragg reflectors [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Opt. Soc. Am. B, 41, D24-D30 (2024)
Iridophore networks in the skin of neon tetra fish are investigated for use as biologically sourced, tunable, Bragg reflector arrays. This paper reports on a method for immediate and fast post-processing of tissue to modify the structural color of iridophores found in the lateral color stripe.

Integration of single‐cell and bulk RNA‐sequencing data reveals the prognostic potential of epithelial gene markers for prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer is a leading malignancy with significant clinical heterogeneity in men. An 11‐gene signature derived from dysregulated epithelial cell markers effectively predicted biochemical recurrence‐free survival in patients who underwent radical surgery or radiotherapy.

Minimally invasive method for murine brain fixation

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2005
Complete brain fixation can be achieved with transthoracic cardiac infusion without thoracotomy. Light and electron microscopy tissue sections reveal preservation of cytoplasmic and nuclear structure at all magnification levels.
