The Receptor-Like Kinase SERK3/BAK1 Is Required for Basal Resistance against the Late Blight Pathogen Phytophthora infestans in Nicotiana benthamiana [PDF]
BACKGROUND The filamentous oomycete plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans causes late blight, an economically important disease, on members of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), such as the crop plants potato and tomato.

Establishment and Verification of An Efficient Virus-induced Gene Silencing System in Forsythia
To understand the functional identification of large-scale genomic sequences in Forsythia, tobacco rattle virus (TRV)-mediated virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS), suitable for the plant, was explored in this study.

Sequential Reconstitution of Tobacco Rattle Virus
Summary Conditions suitable for in vitro reconstitution of the CAM strain of TRV have been defined, and various steps of rod morphogenesis have been studied. The CAM strain of TRV was found to reconstitute best at pH 4·7 in 0·5 m-phosphate buffer at low temperature, unlike the C isolate of TRV which was shown by Semancik & Reynolds (1969) to ...

Management of plant health risks associated with processing of plant-based wastes: A review [PDF]
The rise in international trade of plants and plant products has increased the risk of introduction and spread of plant pathogens and pests. In addition, new risks are arising from the implementation of more environmentally friendly methods of ...

Transgenic Samsun NN tobacco plants expressing the coat protein of tobacco rattle virus were exposed to mechanical leaf inoculation with tobacco rattle virus and to viruliferous trichodorid vector nematodes. Whereas plants were resistant to mechanical inoculation the vector nematodes successfully transmitted tobacco rattle virus to the roots as well as

Molecular diagnosis of trichodorid species from Portugal [PDF]
A PCR-RFLP assay was developed for the identification of trichodorids belonging to Nanidorus, Paratrichodorus and Trichodorus genera. Exploring the variability of the 18S SSU rDNA gene this method provides for the first time a molecular diagnosis tool ...

tRNA-like properties of tobacco rattle virus RNA
The 3' terminal forty nucleotides of tobraviral RNAs readily fold into a tertiary structure, resembling that of tymo- and tobamoviral RNAs. The latter RNAs possess a tRNA-like structure at their 3' end that is recognized by a number of tRNA-specific enzymes (Rietveld et al. (1984), EMBO J. 3, 2613-2619).

Molecular characterization of the Tobacco rattle virus RNA2 genome isolated from Gladiolus [PDF]
Tobacco rattle virus (TRV-K) was first identified in a symptomatic Gladiolus plant cultivated in Korea. We analyzed the TRV-K genome and compared its phylogeny with other TRV isolates.
