BPS solitons in Lifshitz field theories

open access: yes, 2010
Lorentz-invariant scalar field theories in d+1 dimensions with second-order derivative terms are unable to support static soliton solutions that are both finite in energy and stable for d>2, a result known as Derrick's theorem.

Positive topological quantum field theories [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum Topology, 2015
We propose a new notion of positivity for topological field theories (TFTs), based on S. Eilenberg’s concept of completeness for semirings. We show that a complete ground semiring, a system of fields on manifolds and a system of action functionals on these fields determine a positive TFT.

Low‐Symmetry Weyl Semimetals: A Path to Ideal Topological States

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a theoretical framework for realizing ideal Weyl semimetals, where Weyl nodes are well‐isolated at the Fermi level. The approach is exemplified in the low‐symmetry material Cu2SnSe3, which exhibits tunable topological phases, current‐induced orbital magnetization, and a strong circular photogalvanic effect, making it a promising ...

Topological field theories and symmetry protected topological phases with fusion category symmetries

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
Fusion category symmetries are finite symmetries in 1+1 dimensions described by unitary fusion categories. We classify 1+1d time-reversal invariant bosonic symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases with fusion category symmetry by using topological ...

Anomalies in Instanton Calculus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
I develop a formalism for solving topological field theories explicitly, in the case when the explicit expression of the instantons is known. I solve topological Yang-Mills theory with the $k=1$ Belavin {\sl et al.} instanton and topological gravity with

Large Anomalous and Topological Hall Effect and Nernst Effect in a Dirac Kagome Magnet Fe3Ge

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fe3Ge, a Kagome‐lattice magnet, exhibits remarkable anomalous Hall and Nernst effects, with transverse thermoelectric conductivity surpassing or comaprable to some well‐known ferromagnets. First‐principles calculations attribute these to Berry curvature from massive Dirac gaps. Additionally, topological Hall and Nernst signals emerge from field‐induced

Intrinsic sign problems in topological quantum field theories

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
The sign problem is a widespread numerical hurdle preventing us from simulating the equilibrium behavior of various problems at the forefront of physics.

Clean‐Limit 2D Superconductivity in a Thick Exfoliated Kagome Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports clean‐limit 2D superconductivity in a thick kagome system, analogous to the 3D case. It observes a drop in superfluid stiffness near the superconducting transition and a cusp‐like feature in the angular dependence of the upper critical field.

Topological field theories

open access: yesNuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 1990
The outline of this review is as follows. In Section II a simple non-abelian C-S theory is described. It is the quantum mechanical theory of spin and it serves as an illustrative example for quantization of systems with finite phase space. In Section III general non-abelian Chern-Simons theories are discussed.

Fivebranes and 3-manifold homology

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
Motivated by physical constructions of homological knot invariants, we study their analogs for closed 3-manifolds. We show that fivebrane compactifications provide a universal description of various old and new homological invariants of 3-manifolds.
