Skyrmions are topological two-dimensional spin textures that in three-dimensional systems resemble strings or tubes. Here, using transmission electron microscopy Zheng et al observe the braiding of skyrmion strings in FeGe and predict this phenomenon for

Topological strings and Wilson loops
We propose the refined topological string correspondence to the expectation values of half-BPS Wilson loop operators in 5d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 gauge theory partition function on the Omega-deformed background ℝ ϵ 1 , 2 4 $$ {\mathbb{R}}_{\upepsilon_{1,

Stability of topological solitons, and black string to bubble transition
We study the existence of smooth topological solitons and black strings as locally-stable saddles of the Euclidean gravitational action of five dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory.

We study a family of 2d N = 0 , 4 $$ \mathcal{N}=\left(0,\ 4\right) $$ gauge theories which describes at low energy the dynamics of E-strings, the M2-branes suspended between a pair of M5 and M9 branes. The gauge theory is engineered using a duality with

STRINGS AND NON-TOPOLOGICAL SOLITONS [PDF]
We have numerically calculated topological and non-topological solitons in two spatial dimensions with Chern-Simons term. Their quantum stability, as well as that of the Maxwell vortex, is analyzed by means of bounce instantons which involve three-dimensional strings and non-topological solitons.

String topology in three flavors [PDF]
We describe two major string topology operations, the Chas–Sullivan product and the Goresky–Hingston coproduct, from geometric and algebraic perspectives. The geometric construction uses Thom–Pontrjagin intersection theory while the algebraic construction is phrased in terms of Hochschild homology.

We use the computational power of rational homotopy theory to provide an explicit cochain model for the loop product and the string bracket of a 1-connected closed manifold M . We prove that the loop homology of

Topology of strings: Median string is NP-complete
Given a set of strings, the problem of finding a string that minimises its distance to the set is directly related with problems frequently encountered in areas involving pattern recognition or computational biology. Based on the Levenshtein (or edit) distance, different definitions of distances between a string and a set of strings can be adopted.
