Compact torque sensor for a robot hand

2011 8th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2011
For a robot to grasp and manipulate an object with a multi-fingered hand, not only the fingertips but also the whole-finger links should be utilized. Sensing of joint torque is necessary for the robot hand to work correctly, and many sensors for measuring joint torque have been proposed.

Novel sensor design for torque magnetometry

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2007
Torque magnetometry is a powerful method to determine a sample’s magnetic properties. In a torque magnetometer, the sample under interest is mounted on a suitable sensor, the core part of the instrument. Piezoresistive atomic force microscope tips are proven to be very useful torque sensors and have already been optimized for the specific needs of ...

A safe joint with a joint torque sensor

2011 8th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2011
In this study, a safe joint with a joint torque sensor is presented. The safe joint, named “Spring-Clutch”, is a simple passive mechanism that consists of a spring, a cam, and a joint torque sensor. When the torque applied is less than a pre-set threshold, the Spring-Clutch acts as a rigid joint between the input and output.

Torque ripple and misalignment torque compensation for the built-in torque sensor of harmonic drive systems

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 1998
A harmonic drive is a compact, lightweight, and high-ratio torque transmission device which is used in many electrically actuated robot manipulators. In this paper a built-in torque sensor for harmonic-drive systems is examined in detail. The method proposed by Hashimoto, in which strain gauges are directly mounted on the flexspline, is employed and ...

Measurements of Engine Torque with the Intra-Bearing Torque Sensor

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1987
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A miniature noncontact torque sensor has been developed to be mounted on an engine for use in engine control systems. The sensor is installed in a last main bearing of the engine crankshaft. The principle is based on the measurement of torque-induced change in magnetic properties of a crankshaft due to the magneto ...

Transmission Virtual Torque Sensor - Absolute Torque Estimation

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2012
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Automobile drivers/passengers perceive automatic transmission (AT) shift quality through the torque transferred by the transmission. Clearly, torque regulation is important for transmission control.

Pedaling torque reconstruction for half pedaling sensor

2013 European Control Conference (ECC), 2013
Electrically Power Assisted Cycles (EPACs) have been gaining increasing attention worldwide during the past few years. Market analysis show that cyclists prefer torque assisted EPACs over velocity-based ones. A torque assisted cycle requires an estimate or measurement of the cyclist torque, which increases the cost and complexity of the set-up.

Dynamic force/torque sensors: theory and experiments

1997 8th International Conference on Advanced Robotics. Proceedings. ICAR'97, 2002
Although present-day force/torque (F/T) sensors are mostly designed and used as if they were quasi-static devices, if significant compliance and/or stringent requirements on measurements bandwidth are in order, a dynamic analysis of such sensors is necessary.

Torque control of electric motors without using torque sensor

2007 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2007
Accurate torque control of a brushless motor requires the motor's torque characteristics, which can be captured by a periodic function in motor angle. This paper presents a direct adaptive controller for torque control of brushless motors, which estimates the Fourier coefficients of the periodic function based on the measurements of motor phase voltage

Noncontact magnetic torque sensor

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1990
A novel noncontact magnetic torque sensor was developed which is expected to be widely used in factory automation equipment and automobiles. The sensor has two components: two magnetic drums with a torsion bar which makes the connection between the drive shaft and the load shaft, and a magnetic sensor.
