Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Comparison of the values of measured hydratation of sporting youths with normative values

open access: yesActa Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Gymnica, 2013
BACKROUND: When measuring body composition, we monitor the fractionalization of body weight and the share of the individual elements in its aggregate value. The total body water (TBW) is a very important element in addition to the share of body fat (BF),

The impact of moderate and high intensity total body fatigue on passing accuracy in expert and novice basketball players [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Despite the acknowledged importance of fatigue on performance in sport, ecologically sound studies investigating fatigue and its effects on sport-specific skills are surprisingly rare.

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Densitometric measurement of total body fat and total body water in male adults.

open access: yes, 1960
Densitometry was performed on 54 male medical studentsCaverage age: 21.4 years). In another group of 10 male subjects Cage: 34.5 yr.) measurements were made on the total body water by means of antipyrine dilution and densitometry in the same ...

Whole body impedance measurements reflect total body water changes. A study in hemodialysis patients

open access: yes, 1990
Fluid volume changes during hemodialysis was monitored by continuous whole body impedance measurements. The fluid changes recorded using this method was compared to fluid volume changes measured in plasma water (PV) using125I-albumin, and extracellular ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Tritiated water for estimating total body water and water turnover rate in birds

open access: yes, 1981
The use of tritiated water (TOH) to estimate total body water (TBW) and total water turnover rate was validated in chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar) and sand partridges (Ammoperdix heyi).

Effects of glycerol and creatine hyperhydration on doping-relevant blood parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Glycerol is prohibited as an ergogenic aid by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) due to the potential for its plasma expansion properties to have masking effects.
