Model-based analysis of the potential of macroinvertebrates as indicators for microbial pathogens in rivers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The quality of water prior to its use for drinking, farming or recreational purposes must comply with several physicochemical and microbiological standards to safeguard society and the environment.

Relationships of total coliform, fecal coliform, and organic pollution levels in the Tamagawa River.

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1984
Total coliform (TC) and fecal coliform (FC) organisms were enumerated and isolated from water samples from several stations on the Tamagawas River and its tributaries in Tokyo. The level of these indicator bacteria and biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) markedly increased from the upper streams towards the lower reaches of this river system.

Bioaugmentation mitigates the impact of estrogen on coliform-grazing protozoa in slow sand filters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), such as estrogens, is a growing issue for human and animal health as they have been shown to cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in wildlife and plants and have been linked to male ...

Effect of aeration rate on elimination of coliforms during composting of vegetable–fruit wastes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Recycling of Organic Waste in Agriculture
Purpose In waters and wastes, direct pathogen detection is difficult and time consuming. Therefore, coliforms are used as indicators to measure the presence of pathogens.

Underestimation of total-coliform counts by the membrane filter verification procedure [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1982
Coliforms, primarily Citrobacter freundii, gave negative verification results in the total-coliform membrane filtration test. The organisms produced gas from lactose in brilliant green bile broth but not in lauryl tryptose broth. The discrepancy was related to the peptone sources used in the media.

Comparative Meta‐Analysis of Antimicrobial Peptides in Aquatic and Terrestrial Livestock Species

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
A global meta‐analysis of 58 studies (926 effect sizes and 29 species across five taxa) revealed that dietary antimicrobial peptides generally improve growth performance, blood metabolites, and immune responses. The greatest benefits were observed in omnivorous livestock, such as pigs and chickens. Dose‐duration effects were evident. An optimal outcome

Studi Penurunan Kandungan Total Coliform Dengan Menggunakan Kombinasi Vertical Flow Roughing Filter (Vrf) Dan Horizontal Flow Roughing Filter (Hrf) Pada Air Buangan Domestik Artifisial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This research is aims to reduce the content of total coliform bacteria in domestic wastewater using a combination of vertical flow roughing filter (VRF) and horizontal flow roughing filter (HRF) for each variation of flow rate, the type and the size of ...

Effect of Cyclic Heat Exposure on the Growth Performance and Metabolism of Broilers Fed Palm Kernel Meal

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The aim of our study is to evaluate the interaction between HS and the incorporation of PKM in broiler chicken diets, as well as its effect on growth performance and metabolism. Based on the results obtained, PKM supplementation failed to mitigate the adverse effects of heat stress in broiler chickens. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the
