Multifunctional Cellulose Nanofiber Films With Embedded Highly Oriented MXene Flakes

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The critical physical properties of freestanding micrometer‐thick films composed of layered cellulose nanofibers intercalated with Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets (CNF‐MXene) are investigated to find correlated co‐alignment of MXene flakes in the cellulose nanofiber matrix by vacuum‐assisted filtration.

Seeded‐Growth of ZIF‐8 onto Magnetic Nanoparticles: Smart Nanocarriers with Ultrahigh Drug Loading for AMF‐Triggered Release

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
We developed core‐shell iron oxide@ZIF‐8 magnetic‐MOF nanohybrids via a seeded growth method for magnetic hyperthermia‐triggered drug delivery. Cubic cores and thinner shells maximized heating. In‐situ doxorubicin encapsulation achieved 98% loading, better than surface encapsulation. Polymer coating improved stability.

Axial nanoscale localization by normalized total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2014
We present a simple modification of a standard total internal reflection fluorescence microscope to achieve nanometric axial resolution, typically ≈10  nm. The technique is based on a normalization of total internal reflection images by conventional epi-illumination images. We demonstrate the potential of our method to study the adhesion of phopholipid

Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy to Study GLUT4 Trafficking

open access: yes, 2017
Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy is a powerful method that allows examination of plasma membrane close events in real time. The last decade, the method has successfully been used to explore GLUT4 translocation in adipocytes. Here, we describe the procedure for studying GLUT4 trafficking using TIRF microscopy in isolated primary ...

Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) Microscopy

Current Protocols in Microbiology, 2008
Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy represents a method of exciting and visualizing fluorophores present in the near-membrane region of live or fixed cells grown on coverslips. TIRF microscopy is based on the total internal reflection phenomenon that occurs when light passes from a high-refractive medium (e.g., glass) into a low ...

Total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy: technical innovations and novel applications

Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 2005
Recent years have seen the introduction of novel techniques and applications of total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy (TIRFM). Key technical achievements include miniaturization, enhanced depth resolution, reduction of detection volumes and the combination of TIRFM with other microscopic techniques.

Attoliter detection volumes by confocal total-internal-reflection fluorescence microscopy

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2004
We report a confocal total-internal-reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscope that generates a detection volume for analyte molecules of less than 5 al (5 x 10(-18) l) at a water-glass interface. Compared with conventional confocal microscopy, this represents a reduction of almost 2 orders of magnitude, which is important in isolating individual ...
