Implications of the operation of continuous granular activated carbon filters on the effluent quality

open access: yesWater Science and Technology
Granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration is a commonly used method for advanced wastewater treatment. Filters can be operated continuously or discontinuously, with continuous operation not requiring feed flow interruption for backwashing and ...

Characterization of Temporal and Spatial Variability of Phosphorus Loading to Lake Erie from the Western Basin Using Wavelet Transform Methods

open access: yesHydrology, 2018
The characterization of temporal and spatial patterns in phosphorus (P) loading in Lake Erie is essential in order to continue monitoring the excessive P condition that comes from the western Lake Erie Basin.

Using SWAP to Study the Changes in Nonpoint Source Pollution in Burhatong River Basin

open access: yesGuan'gai paishui xuebao, 2021
【Background】 Nonpoint source pollution can cause eutrophication and biodiversity loss in rivers and lakes. In China, nonpoint source pollution from agriculture has become an environmental concern and understanding its composition and spatial distribution

Designed Lewis Acid–Base Passivation for High Performance Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silicon's high cost and long energy payback time remain major barriers to the global expansion of solar power. In contrast, metal–halide perovskites offer abundant, solution‐processable absorbers, and have achieved efficiencies of 25%–30%, positioning them as strong competitors to silicon.

Bioinspired Mechanically Robust Organic–Inorganic Hybridized Bio‐Adhesives With up to 50% Inorganic Components by Bi‐Continuous Phase Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A robust plant protein adhesive was prepared by fabricating a bi‐continuous organic–inorganic hybrid structure. Compared with traditional organic–inorganic hybrid adhesives, the addition amount of inorganic phase is increased from 0.2%–3.0% to 50%, and the strength and toughness are increased by 6 and 121 times, respectively.

Nutrients retention in a small subtropical wetland (México)

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2016
In tropical areas very few studies have analysed wetlands’ ability to control nutrients. We analysed the efficiency of the Pátzcuaro subtropical wetland in Mexico to retain nutrients (total phosphorus: TP; soluble reactive phosphorus: PO43-, nitrite: NO2-

Hierarchical MXene‐Derived NTP/C Nanohybrids for Cryogenic Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical MXene‐derived NaTi2(PO4)3/C nanohybrid enables efficient sodium‐ion storage down to −40°C by integrating fast ion–electron transport pathways with an ether‐based electrolyte. The system promotes dominant pseudocapacitive behavior and forms a robust inorganic‐rich SEI, collectively mitigating kinetic and interfacial limitations, thereby ...

Evaluation of total phosphorus and total nitrogen methods in pulp mill effluents

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2004
Under the Clean Water Action Plan, the US Environmental Protection Agency is requiring states to establish numeric criteria for phosphorus and nitrogen. In preparation for the development of nutrient criteria NCASI undertook a research project to conduct a comparative study of methods for the determination of total phosphorus and total nitrogen in pulp

Interface Effects in Ultrathin Silicon on Insulator Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes a systematic framework to discriminate how bulk and interface phenomena affect charge transport in ultrathin P‐doped silicon‐on‐insulator (SOI) films. For Si films below 15 nm, electrical characterization demonstrates that interface states drive charge transport, shifting the metal‐insulator transition (MIT) critical dopant ...

Coupling Anodic Activity and Stability at Ni‐Based Non‐Oxide Catalysts via Coordinating Alcohol Oxidation and Oxygen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A cooperative and competitive interrelationship between alcohol oxidation (AOR) and water oxidation (OER) was observed on a typical anode catalyst of Ni2P. In situ Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical analyses revealed a specific complementary mechanism between them, in which OER and AOR critically contribute to the activity and stability of anodic ...
