The multifocal pattern electroretinogram in chloroquine retinopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Purpose: Optimal screening for ocular toxicity caused by chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine is still controversial. With the multifocal pattern electroretinogram (mfPERG), a new electrophysiological technique has recently become available to detect early

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Does selenium offset methylmercury toxicity across trophic levels in a primary producer, Auxenochlorella pyrenoidosa, and a detritovore, Aeolosoma variegatum?

open access: yesFACETS
Methylmercury ([CH3Hg]+ or MeHg) is a potent neurotoxin that impairs functioning of the nervous system, and selenium (Se) is known to provide a protective effect against MeHg.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Liver Safety Assessment of an Indonesian Hexavalent Vaccine Candidate Through Histopathology and ALT/AST Evaluation in Rats and Rabbits

open access: yesVaccines
Background: Administering several separate childhood vaccines can reduce adherence to immunization schedules due to missed appointments and the burden of repeated injections. A hexavalent formulation targeting diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B,

Review on the acute Daphnia magna toxicity test – Evaluation of the sensitivity and the precision of assays performed with organisms from laboratory cultures or hatched from dormant eggs [PDF]

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2009
One of the most internationally used bioassays for toxicity screening of chemicals and for toxicity monitoring of effluents and contaminated waters is the acute toxicity test with daphnid crustaceans, and in particular that performed with Daphnia magna ...
